NBA draft winners and losers

Recommended Posts

since i cant ever stop talking the game of basketball, i decided to post my opinion on the winners and losers of the NBA draft. I tried not to be biased  :) ill start with the winners:

New Orleans Hornets (obsivously)- shocking nobody in attendance or watching, the hornets took anthony davis #1. davis is a game changer, and future face of the franchise. with that pick alone the hornets wouldve been a winner in this years draft, but this was just the start. also having the 10th pick, the hornets grabbed duke sharpshooter austin rivers (top 5 in my mock draft, and couldve been top 5 another year) this was a best player available pick, as the hornets have a prospect in eric gordon, but gordon could leave via free agency. rivers brings the big shot mentaility the hornets need in late game situations. if gordon resigns, this trio could be fun to watch in the next few years.

Oklahoma City Thunder- I call this pick the steal of the first round, having a lottery talent fall out of the lottery is almost a annual affair, and usually the scouts are right about them. but i see alot of potential in Perry Jones III. i was actually shocked to see him slide that far down, but what a pickup by the thunder. if jones can get past his knee issues, i see him fitting just fine into the thunder rotation.

Detroit Pistons- picking 9th in the draft this year, the pistons needed just about everything. the last few years have been rebuilding years for detroit, and the next few will be also. that being said, i did not expect andre drummond to still be available this far into the lottery picks. most scouts had drummond ranked #3 behind davis and thomas robinson in potential. drummond is a freak. 7 foot tall with a 7 foot 5 wingspan, has the potential to really flourish in detroits system. pairing him with greg monroe will be a nice 4-5 combo to watch.

Sacramento Kings- see above. having alot of lottery picks the last few years, the kings are also in rebuilding mode, but i believe they are a peice or 2 short of becoming a contender. with young guys like cousins, jimmer and tyreke, they have a solid core, and adding thomas robinson to the mix will make things very interesting. another 4-5 combo to watch in the upcoming years.

now, on to my biggest losers of the draft.

Charlotte Bobcats- luck has not been on the cats side recently, starting with this years team being the worst on record of the nba. this team is plain bad, period. they need upgrades in all 5 positions. a new front office wouldnt hurt them, either. they are losers of the draft just because they missed out on anthony davis, plain and simple. not to take anything away from MKG, hes a great player, but not a game changer.he thrived in kentuckys system because he had peices around him to make him better. hes the lone wolf in charlotte. hopefully he will have a great career. bear in mind that the bobcats faced uncertainity from the #2 ranked player down anyways. not a total loss but the bobcats need everything they can get this summer.

Toronto Raptors- you have a great young prospect at sg in Demar Derozan, so why draft a player that is almost identical to him play wise? thats terrance ross. passing on what was available really perplexed me. jerry coangelo can recruit a gold medal winning olympic squad, but isnt doing so hot up in canada with questionable draft picks the last few years (oh and not building around that chris bosh guy) ross was a stretch at this pick, i honestly thought they could land a prospective peice in drummond or rivers.

Indiania Pacers-  larry birds last draft pick as a front office guy, boy did he stink this one up.  not only did you draft an overrated pf/c in the first round, your sending a wrong message to your free agent center you have now in roy hibbert. basically telling him to pack his bags in my opinion. i had mid 2nd rounders rated higher than plumlee, yet you pass on moultrie from mississippi state or perry jones III, heck i woulda even considered draymond green or quincy acy with this pick. the pacers are already a good team who will be contending for the next few years, so maybe bird thought he could take a chance. definetely missed

im new to this whole sports writing thing, so let me know what yall think about my views and opinions. post your thoughts, i love chatting basketball. thanks guys
