OC tracksters shine in 21-3A field events

BRIDGE CITY — Several Orange County athletes shined during the field events portion of the District 21-3A Track & Field Championships at Bridge City High School Saturday.

Perhaps having the biggest day was Orangefield’s Logan Moss.

Moss captured first-place in the discus, surpassing the all-time Bobcat record with a toss of 156 feet, 9 inches.

The Bobcats nabbed another first-place finish in the form of Ty Johnson, who won the pole vault with a 13-foot effort.

On the girls’ side, West Orange-Stark’s Johnesha Sims, despite battling a hampering leg injury, won the triple jump with a mark of 34-2 and Orangefield’s Jennifer McManus took the pole vault with a 9-6 effort.

The top three finishers in each event will advance to the Class 3A Region III Track & Field Championships May 2-3 at Humble High School.

The 21-3A Running Finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Larry Ward Stadium at Bridge City High School.

Several local athletes punched in regional berths.

For the boys, WO-S’ Derek Ledet was second in the high jump (6-0) and Bridge City’s Tyler Roberts nabbed second in the triple jump (42-3).

WO-S’ Mark Roberts was third in the long jump (20-5 1/2) and teammate DeCarlos Renfro was third in the triple jump (41-9). Bridge City’s Sean Longmire netted third in the pole vault (12-0).

For the girls, Bridge City’s Hope Carr will head to regionals in two events, placing second in the long jump (15-11) and third in the triple jump (31-7).

WO-S’ Sims was also third in the long jump (15-10) and teammateAshleigh Kelly nabbed third in the shot put (33-8 1/2).

Bridge City’s Alex Holland was third in the high jump (4-8) and teammate Blair Bishop notched third in the pole vault (9-0).

High jump: 1. Ashley Johnson, Silsbee, 5-5; 2. Lisa Elander, Hardin-Jefferson, 4-10; 3. Alex Holland, Bridge City, 4-8.

Long jump: 1. Katy Heiman, Hamshire-Fannett, 16-7; 2. Hope Carr, Bridge City, 15-11; 3. Johnesha Sims, WO-S, 15-10.

Triple jump: 1. Johnesha Sims, WO-S, 34-2; 2. Katy Heiman, Hamshire-Fannett, 32-4; 3. Hope Carr, Bridge City, 31-7.

Pole vault: 1. Jennifer McManus, Orangefield, 9-6; 2. Jessica Louviere, Silsbee, 9-0; 3. Blair Bishop, Bridge City, 9-0.

Point standings: 1. Bridge City 42; 2. Hardin-Jefferson 40; 3. Silsbee 39; 4. (t.) Hamshire-Fannett  and WO-S 24; 6. Orangefield 16.

BOYS DIVISION

High jump: 1. Trevor Bell, Hamshire-Fannett, 6-2; 2. Derek Ledet, WO-S, 6-0; 3. Tyler Starr, Hardin-Jefferson, 5-10.
