Tribe escapes Langham Creek, 10-8

BAYTOWN — Amir Jalali slugged a grand slam in the third inning to give the Port Neches-Groves Indians a relaxing 10-1 advantage over Langham Creek Friday afternoon at the Baytown Tournament at Robert E. Lee High School.

But Langham scratched for a run in the fifth, two more in the sixth and then converted two PN-G errors into four runs in the seventh to bring the final score to 10-8.

Blake Reyenga took the hill for the last out, preserving the victory for the Indians, who had six hits and four errors in the contest.

Kane Benoit recorded a double, single and drove in Reyenga for an RBI.

Hunter Knox was the winning pitcher. He went the first three innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks. Alex Sanderson came in for the fourth and Jordan Rodriguez went 1.3 innings before handing things over to Reyenga.

With the win, the Tribe moves to 5-1 on the season and will be back in action at 12 p.m. in Baytown today for the semifinals round o the tournament. The championship game is set for 3 p.m.

quote from The Baytown Sun, Saturday, March 6th:

"Sterling coach Paul Tadlock elected not to have the Rangers play today, citing a lack of rested pitchers."

It's a good thing they did not win yesterday. Would have been a shame to have to skip the Championship. ;)
