Guest baseball25 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Fedor seems pretty loyal to him (agent), despite some of the alleged demands. I also think Fedor should shoulder some blame if a deal with the UFC doesn't get done. Because if a professional athlete wants a deal to get done, usually they can strong-arm an agent.
venom33 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Fedor is the most legitimate HW Champion in the sport - by every historically established standard of measure. Because what are all the ways to define a legitimate Championship and Champion? If it's by legitimacy of historical lineage - Fedor is actually both the linear UFC and Pride HW Champion. So there is not even possibly a more legitimate Champion by lineage than Fedor. If it's by having won a legitimate Championship-qualifying fight - well, Fedor did just that by beating the universally ranked #1 in the world (as well as the Linear Champ) at the time in Nog. (And additionally - the historical standard for defining a new legitimate World Championship is by having the #1 in the world face the #2. And when Fedor beat Nog in the rematch, they were both the undisputed top 2 on every single ranking out there - without exception.) Or if the true World Champion is defined by who is the universally ranked #1 in the world - then obviously, the fact is that it's Fedor. Or if the Champ is just simply who is considered the consensus best in the world - the man who would be expected to straight-up beat all others - then by that standard, Fedor is the Champ as well. Because it is a fact that as of now, Fedor would be favored to beat every single other fighter in the world. So Fedor fulfills all of these historical Championship standards. And at this point, there is no possible measure or legitimately established basis by which Brock is actually already ahead of Fedor, in terms of being ranked #1 or the true HW Champ. Yes, the reality is that - in stark contrast to the more long-term knowledgeable followers of the sport (fans, pundits, and fighters alike) - the overwhelming majority of the mainstream noobs would instead automatically consider Brock, or any UFC titleholder, to already be the true champ based purely on the brand-name label alone. But it's rather ironic that in the sport of MMA, those with the "newer" perspective - with the least historical background and knowledge - will predominantly be the ones to actually write history. Or rather, re-write it. And they will be (re-)writing it based almost exclusively from the perspective of a single promotional brand - rather than from the entire span of the sport and its history
