Coach Dwight Bickham definitely has the Deweyville program turned around. The Pirates are now very competitive in the 2A ranks and are expected to make the playoffs once again in 2007. The Pirates welcome back a total of 14 starters in 2007 and should make a run at the 24-2A championship.

Key Wins Last Year:

Warren (29-26)

Anahuac (26-14)

Last Year’s Scores:

Deweyville 76 Cathedral 0

Deweyville 35 Evadale 0

Deweyville 56 High Island 18

Deweyville 59 Burkeville 8

Deweyville 57 Hardin 14

East Chambers 60 Deweyville 44

Deweyville 29 Warren 26

Deweyville 26 Anahuac 14

Buna 19 Deweyville 6

Deweyville 31 Kountze 7

Corrigan-Camden 42 Deweyville 14

Offensive Summary

9 starters are back on offense for Deweyville this season. Last year the Pirate offense poured out an average of 40 points per game. The Pirates lost RB Justin Williams to graduation but Stephen Gibson brings experience to the backfield this year. In 2006 Gibson rushed for 458 yards and 8 touchdowns as a backup and should put up some good numbers this year. QB Brandon Powell returns after passing for 726 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. Also look for Deweyville to have a good offensive line led by all-district returner Dalton Estes.

Other Offensive Impact Players:

Dustin Delgadillo (OL)

Defensive Summary

The Pirates have 5 starters back from a defensive unit that gave up 19 points per game in 2006. Deweyville will be a little young on defense and if they come around early should prove to be tough. Expect big things from DE Jimmy Folsom this season as well as LB Cruzz Thrailkille. Also DE Matt Manning should be a force for Deweyville in 2007.

Other Defensive Impact Players:

Hunter Manning (DL)

Deweyville will open their 2007 season with a very tough test as they host Vinton, LA in week 0. The Pirates are home for two more straight games in week 1 against Evadale and week 2 against High Island. They close out non-district play on September 21 at Burkeville. The Pirates have two very important district contests with district favorite East Chambers coming to town on October 5 and on November 2 they take a trip to Buna. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Deweyville Pirates……

The o-line is going to be solid this year! were bigger and faster we only lost one starter last year on the line, the games are going to be won up front this year.

defense is going to be solid also we are going to be loaded on the d-line and LB positions!

most of the starters this year are going to be seniors.

Buna - 35

Deweyville - 7

Nov. 3rd orange insider - "In the last nights game with dewyville travelling to Buna, Buna came on top with a 35-7 victory.  Dewyville scored 1st but Buna quickly responded with a td and a fumble recovery.  at half it was buna on top 28-7.  Buna ended up with 1 more score and deweyville no more. Good job to both teams."

What a joke, are you smoking crack?  Must be with this score, these two teams are mirror images of each other, this game will be close.

Thanks rebfan for settin him straight.  itll be a good game, until the second half and buna will run with it.

Yeah, setting it straight, last year when Deweyville scrimmaged Buna, the Pirates destroyed the Cougars, however, in the regular season Buna won, so you can't go by what you see in the early scrimmages.  Come November 2, all the talk will be done on the Field, not on a message board.  Enjoy 2a Buna, cause come Feb 08 you'll be back in 3a.  IMHO.

hate to say this but i dont think this team is gonna be any good this year....they were a playoff calibur team and we(anahuac) were not that good and they barely beat us....losing your star runnin back dont help either....i played in the game last year and the back up rb's were not that great either
