hows it look for toldeo bend? anyone heard if the bass are hittin on anything?

Toledo Bend - Guide Joe Joslin reports that boat traffic is getting back to normal on the lake and fishing is good fro bass. The best lures have been slow sinking plastics like the Berkley Gulp Sinking Minnows and Senkos. Topwaters are taking bass over the grass. Crappie are fair to good on slow-rolled jigs in 10 to 15 feet of water.

Tomorrow morning there is a high tide early, which should make for some very interesting conditions if the wind holds. I would blow-off Toledo and try a run at some specks or reds with that incoming high tide.

If you just have to go to Toledo, the fish are moving back shallow and you should try top-water early, then switch to a spinner bait and/or a senko (or othr soft plastic). Grass flats and points near creek channels shouuld hold some fish, as will the back of coves where you can find bait fish.

Just easier to hire a guide and sit back and tell some big ones. Is Hackberry rod and reel open again?

I went to Spindletop Bass club on Fri. and was pretty disapointed. Normally at this time of yeear we'll catch 30 or so by lunch time. Fri., however, between 3 boats we only had 30 all together. Don't know what the deal was. The winds are always a challenge out there. It turned out to be windier than the 5-10 as was called for, so boat handling was tougher. That shouldn't have made that much of a difference though. Maybe they ate all night on the full moon and were just taking the 1st half of the day off????

This High-Pressure does not help matters any. It's not just Toledo bend, but just about anywhere. When this happens, try pegging a creature bait or a paddle-tail worm with a light weight and pitch into heavy cover. The fish are there, you just have to hit them on the head. If you can work a spinner bait close to cover it also might work for you.

I had about 19 lbs Sunday back near what used to be Mid-Lake KOA. I think it is just called Mid-Lake Campground now (not sure). Using same patter as listed above. Best fish a little over 7 lbs.

I've got that "offshore fever" going on now. Hopefully Cooper can keep the winds down so I can make it out. I heard that there are some really nice snapper close in.

I can confirm the snapper report for you. I had to throw back a few over 15 lbs on the last trip. Darn shame!
