Indians, Todd shut out Lufkin

PREP BALL ROUNDUP

The Port Arthur News

LUFKIN - Junior pitcher Mitchell Todd made his varsity debut for Port Neches-Groves a memorable one Friday.

The right-hander blanked Class 5A Lufkin High 7-0 with a complete game five-hitter at Morris Frank Park. He struck out four batters and walked two and needed only 78 pitches to work seven scoreless innings.

PN-G, 6-6 overall, was playing in second-day action at the Lufkin baseball tournament which is hosted jointly by Lufkin High and Lufkin Hudson.

Saturday, the Indians will play Lufkin Hudson at the Hudson ballpark at 11 a.m., then return to Morris Frank Park to take on Houston Westside at 2:30 p.m. in their final game of the round-robin affair.

PN-G scored single runs in the first and fourth innings against Lufkin, while putting together three scores in the third and two more in the fifth.

Eric Harrington was the only Indian to get two hits on a day that saw PN-G score seven runs with just six hits. Harrington had a triple and plated a pair of runs. Brett Doty had a triple for the Indians and Drew Barnett pushed across two runs, one on an RBI groundout, another on a squeeze bunt.
