Wrestlers at state

Three West Brook wrestlers will compete Feb. 23-24 at the UIL Class 5A state championships in Austin.

Senior Jacob Rice (171 pounds), junior Gerald Moulton (189) and senior Michael Zoch (285) qualified from the Region 3 tournament Saturday.

Michael Zoch didn't make it through Friday eliminations, after losing to Teague, who took 1st place. Michael weighs 240 lbs. and wrestles the 285 lb class, giving up 45 lbs. to most of his opponents. Gerald Moulton took a fifth place. In his second match he took a hard hit to the face and battled a bloody nose all weekend, wrestling with his nose stuffed and taped. Jacob Rice took 4th in his weight class. Last year he didn't even make regionals. West Brook ended up in 22nd place in team points. Congratulations to the boys and Coach Hemmings. West Brook's wrestling program has earned state wide respect.
