HJ Hires Zach Bass as new AD/HC

Recommended Posts

All that matters now is the 7 year clock to win a 4A Texas state football championship at H.J. starts now for Bass, hopefully for his sake things work out better at H.J. in the win column then at Tarkington. 🙏

So you're telling me that if he doesn't win a state championship at HJ in seven years, his time there is going to be considered a bust? I think that's rather presumptuous considering their record is 9-30 since 2018.

I will make no guarantees regarding their future football success as I know nothing about HJ's talent concerning their up and coming youth. However, I will guarantee you this, those kids and the parents there, of course except the few whose kid doesn't get to play that are always mad at everyone, will love him and love playing for him. He is a great person and great coach to help kids become young men.

I'm fairly certain he's taking a good-natured shot at the same person I am in my previous comment.

Ah, that makes more sense!!! I do remember now that there was a person on the Tarkington thread who kept gauging coaching success on strictly overall records and state titles. That's my bad, sometimes sarcasm is hard to read...

Don't shoot the messenger, just re-stating some posts that the gauge of success that separates the average coaches from the elite head football coaches when a school  makes a new hire. Being a great person, having many coaching friends, loved by all & a nice guy looks good on a resume but winning state titles is what turns boys into real men😬

With all the growth going on Sour Lake. I expect them to be in the top 4. WOS Silsbee and Jasper. Someone fighting for that 4th spot

Good thing H.J. hired Bass then, winning a state title from the 4th seed in district every year will make him even more elite then Scott Surratt

Not to break hearts, but HJ will never win a state title in football.  I would love to see them with a winning record.  HJ had a good run a few years back, but HJ has never been known for their football dominance.

Lets start with a winning season and some playoff games.  But State??? He doesn't have to win State to be considered a winner in Sour Lake.

With all the growth in sour lake I expect them to end up being a small 5A school in the near future and do even worse.  but hopefully not.

It seems you did not get the Reagan Head Coach\AD hiring memo that's been discussed the last few months on each coaching vacancy. Because if expectations at H.J. with the Bass hire is not winning a state title & just wanting a winning season, some playoff wins within 7 years this hiring is a terrible failure from day 1. Also in the memo is rule #2 "Do not hire a guy who says he knows how to win, but has a losing career coaching record"

I find that hard to believe… as much growth as Lumberton has had still not 5A. BC still in 4A Div 2, Orangefield goes back and forth between 4A and 3A. HF still in 4A Div 2 and all these area have had significant growth and new housing development within the last 12 years or so.

Lumberton growth demographics show a lot of younger families with younger kids in some of the newer subdivisions while other newer subdivisions indicate older demographics that have retired or kids are college aged. They will eventually hit high school in a few years and thus thrust Lumberton back into 5A.
