When did Hull-Daisetta join this district and are they going to be THAT good?

  2. 100 days from now the season starts with a bang. Mustangs D needs to be ready for anything against Nederland (deleted). WOS has a good returning group of play makers that look to make some noise after a disappointing season under a 1st year coaching staff. Those guys have now had a full off-season to prepare. Mustang fans are eager to see what has or hasn't changed. Tradition will not go away easy. One step at a time to the top, just like the Mustang mile. We'll go meet up with all the teams that got their wins last season. And remind them why the we have the record of all time winningest team in TXHSFB history. 1. 8/25 @ Nederland- 7:30pm 2. 9/1 vs LCM- 7:00pm 3. 9/8 @ PNG- 7:30pm 4. 9/15 vs Newton- 7:30pm 5. 9/22 vs Silsbee- 7:30pm 6. 9/29 @ Liberty- 7:30pm 7. 10/6 vs HF- 7:30pm 8. 10/13 @ Bridge City- 7:30pm 9. 10/20 vs Jasper- 7:30pm 10. 10/27 Bye 11. 11/3 @ HJ- 7:30pm Bellville? I'm gonna go head and pencil in that game too. Just won't be 1st round. I'm also looking forward to home field advantage... Newton, Silsbee, HF, Jasper. Seems like we can turn this thing around pretty quick with a couple big home games against ranked competition. Mustangs Nation been too quiet this year. Time to get it going the right way. The Mustang Way.

  3. Almost happened last year with that coach you like. Aledo played against Coach Willis lead teams in '14-'15 (CP) & '16-'17 (CH). From my experience his teams play hard and don't quit. I think y'all got a good coach.

  4. I have no doubt the kids did not appreciate losing the other coach but they could care less about the age of the new coach. You drew a lot of conclusions that are not known by assuming the hiring parties logic. The "2-8 guy" is also a "State Champion guy". The kids will make their assessment as the program gets implemented. If it goes well they forget that Prieto was ever there. If it goes poorly there will be second guessing. There is nothing wrong with the hire on paper. It is just not what "you" wanted.

  5. They had a guy already on staff that checked these boxes and was instrumental in developing the success that the Cougars have had lately.

  6. No, no, no! Getting rid of the police and makings drugs legal fixes most problems. Everyone knows it is the cop’s fault that drug users steal, kill and trash neighborhoods. Leave the drug addicts to themselves and not all but most problems will go away. The situation certainly will never get worse. Portland, San Francisco and coming soon to a neighborhood nearby….

  7. I think you are both right. The cool thing about HS sports is that you can experience it the way you want to. A game at a time or a deep dive into stats and seasons projections. Or somewhere in between. Have your kind of fun with it.

    RIP Hagar

It is with great sadness I report that Hagar passed last night. He had been battling cancer for some time, along with his wife of 55 years. She passed less than 2 months ago, and our buddy just joined her. He missed her dearly, obviously, and was surely overjoyed to join her. He had just gotten a positive report but developed an infection this week his body couldn’t fight off. His daughter reports that he passed peacefully in the night. Hagar was someone we all enjoyed posting, and he was a great friend. I met him through this message board, and was blessed to develop a friendship over the past several years. I debated where to post this (either here, the football board, or the Locker Room), but I feel like this is the one where he posted and enjoyed the most. He will be deeply missed. Prayers for his beloved son, daughter and grandchildren. As you can imagine, he was very proud of them and an incredible dad and grandad to them all.

    PN-G's Spring Game

I am a stats person. I like to see the unfolding early then I can feel more comfortable making a long term observation. Forgive me if this sounds obvious. I study stats religiously for PNG and work with the Indians site to collect them for as far back as possible and as well as todays stats as well. Right now we are working on a PNG video library of games. We have games from each decade starting in the 1950's until now Still have a lot of work to do but Id say we have built quit the library. The games from the 70s back ofcourse are all 8mm film, but watching the greatest RB in PNG history who played 20 years before I was born was amazing. He won the SC in 1955 and still holds the career rushing record at PNG. Noone has broken it. Not Roschon, or Trahan, or McGill, or even the great Bergeron. Thats an amazing feat to hold a record that long for any school. Roschon was nearly 400 yards behind Gordon and Bergeron probably the fastest B to ever walk the halls of PNG was 1100 yards shy of LeBoeuf.

  10. No offense, but I remember when LaMarque was a powerhouse. Heck, even Burkeville and BC have state championships and both are about a million miles away from being decent for the last few years. Crazy things happen. You lose the coaching, the culture, the winning, and then the athletes.... then it's over. If you ask me, WOS basically lost the first three last year. I guess the only question is whether or not it was a fluke, and whether or not kids and their parents decide to bail if the ship isn't righted this year. I'm not wishing bad luck on our neighbors, but to pretend that it can't happen because of 112% or whatever is really just ignoring what can obviously happen.

  13. Great points of emphasis. You could do an Open Records request under the "the public information act". Sure they will try and stall and redact some info, but by law they have to release information. To include notes, emails and recording by all that's involved.

  14. No doubt WOS had a tough year last year. Look who they lost to: Newton- 12-2, 4 rounds deep (lost by 3) PNG- 13-3, 5A State finalists Silsbee- 13-1, 4 rounds deep (absolutely were good enough to make it to the state finals and lose to carthage) HF- 9-4, 3 rounds deep Jasper- 7-4 (close losses to Newton, Franklin, and Silsbee) Bellville- 11-1 Legitimate argument that this was the toughest schedule in the state. WOS was a handful of plays away from being 8-3 and state ranked going to the second round of the playoffs. Obviously it was a disappointing season, no doubt about it. But it's not going to take a whole lot to turn it around this year. That said, if it gets worse, it's time for a change at the end of the season.

I am simply saying he is trying to get his best offer which there is nothing wrong with that. I was not calling you out. You took that all wrong, sorry if I offended you. That is not my intent to personally offend anyone. Trolling to me means looking around and there is nothing wrong with that.

  16. You know how critical I am of questionable stuff and I'm here to tell you I would've been 1000% Prieto starting starting his son at QB as a freshman if Eudy didn't play. Kid is an absolute stud and would've broken every passing record at the school except for maybe Kellen Haynes single season yards record. Remember that freshman QB that touched us up in the A&M Consol. game, little Prieto had that level talent.

  17. Yikes, seems someone's not happy. Getting a coach with a ship and another title appearance doesn't seem like the worst hire to me. He did just retire from Tyler Legacy but I question how much of that was not liking to lose. He was very successful at CP and heard very good things from friends up in Colleyville about him. And what if he is a couple year stand in? If he does a good job in those years and steps away you get your pick of the crop instead of the pick of the surplus that we had this year.

We more than challenged Silsbee last season. Until poor officiating changed the outcome of the game. It is what it is. Hey 92 the DAWGS will make us proud this season. I am not meaning a Championship type season, but 2-3 rounds is feasible. CC and staff getting the program headed in the right direction. We have some kids coming up the next 2-3 years that if all goes well will be alot of fun to watch.

  22. Why? As a fan you can look ahead and have predictions and/or projections. It's not going to effect the teams outcome. I've already broke down the schedule and posted a high/low scenario for my team.

I dont think Jasper is ready to challenge Silsbee...but I dont see any reason why they can't finish 2nd in district this year and be a top ten type team in 4A-D2....they have the pieces IMO

  30. I would’ve liked to see someone younger. He’s had tremendous success at CP but no where else. Someone 36-46 with enough piss and vinegar to get the kids up and buying in. Not a someone their pawpaw age.

    RIP Hagar

He thought a lot of you as well. We both mentioned you and LRF often as guys we knew we would like and enjoy their company. I’m so grateful we met (I think AAW and I met him at the same time during the Evadale tournament years ago). I was blessed to be able to watch several games with him over the year. We shared a love of sports and complaining about officiating.

    RIP Hagar

OMG. I knew I should have checked on him. I work with a man from Evadale and asked Hagar if he knew him. Of course he did. Our friendship took off from there. I never met the man, now I wish I had. He and I would text occasionally. He told me of his condition and asked me not to mention it. You posted it in the right place. Even though we may not have met, I feel I know the man. He had a sense of humor that was so enjoyable. We all loved his posts and his “country” humor. He will be sorely missed. R. I. P. my friend.

  34. Who would have ever thought an Orangefield basketball thread would go 9 pages! If what’s being said is true then it’s a great hire by Smalley.
    1 point
  35. He really does. I think it helps too that he has a reputation as the kind of AD people love to work with. He genuinely loves all the sports. Like most Texans (myself excluded), just football the most. The OF community is blessed to have him.

  36. Great idea. Probably should've been locked up until the official announcement anyway. I'm guilty too though. Hope everyone is happy when the announcement is made. This seems like a home run hire again for OF. Coach Smalley makes this look easy. We'll see soon enough.

  37. Everyone has their own opinion. Personally, I love the hire. Always enjoyed watching his teams play and seems like a great guy. Glad he’s coming back closer to home. And I think he only lost to OF once during his time at Buna so happy to see him on the orange bench.

  38. Really good kid from a really good family. Wish him and the Bobcats well. And as usual, I really like Smalley’s hire here. Hope it’s another home run.
