    Coach Bashing

This season, more so than any other that I can remember in my 15 or so years on SETXsports, we're having a major problem with multiple posters from multiple teams continually bashing, criticizing, and insulting various area coaches. Moderators have had to post the no coach-bashing rule in multiple threads that have gone off the rails due to complaints about coaching. There are ways to express yourself without violating this rule. If you can't find a way to do so, I'd suggest avoiding the topic completely. I don't care if WOS goes 2-8, if Vidor runs the ball up the middle 200 times in a row, or if Hull-Daisetta doesn't listen to the experts and mismanages the clock while calling the wrong plays. Anyone who violates this rule during the remainder of the season is receiving an immediate one-week ban. Violations are decided by moderator discretion. If you continue to violate the rule once you return you will be banned permanently. If you're about to make a post about coaching, but you're not sure if it's okay, don't make it. Save your opinion for facebook, or better yet, go to the game and scream it in the stands with the other coaching experts. It's important to remember that while our site encourages healthy discussion, we demand an atmosphere of respect towards our local players, coaches, and communities, no matter your opinion of their performance.. Please remember that this post is your free warning. Any questions about this rule, or about a post you'd like to make, may be sent to myself or other moderators in private message for clarification without repercussions. Below, for the fiftieth time, is the rule that so many of you continue to violate. Thank you, and happy posting. 18 ) The bashing of any particular coach, player, referee, etc will not be tolerated. This includes issues involving their personal lives, coaching/playing style or performance, past experiences, etc.

I agree completely about student athletes NOT being called out. They’re kids. I’ll abide by the rule about coaches, but it’s dumb. If a man wants to take on the role of coaching with all of its financial rewards, prestige, power, etc… and expects to bask in the glory and praise after wins, he/she should have to face the criticism when it comes. There’s a big difference between criticizing a kid who threw a pick versus criticizing a highly paid professional who made a questionable play call, or is even having problems after deciding to install a new philosophy despite the old one being pretty doggone effective. Should people stick “for sale” signs in his yard? Absolutely not. But should that man be spared from any form of criticism, too? I don’t think so.

  3. We rarely say anything about the boys in the stripes, except maybe they are blind😉. I would like to bring up something though, in 1958 my uncle Beau Hicks joined the Southwest Officials Association, the precursor to todays Texas Association of Sports Officials, he served as Secretary, I believe President for a while, refereed in both High School and College games as well as ending his career as a recruiter for officials for the NFL. A few years after Uncle Beau started my dad, Wayne Hicks, joined as well, both of them served in virtually every position on the field as well as officiating basketball for awhile which I remember was not my dads' favorite. About 20 years after my Uncle joined my middle brother BJ Hicks joined TASO and has officiated just about every position on the field along with becoming one of the few caucasian officlas in SWAC for a few years. One of my cousins also tried it for awhile but didn't like it. Both my dad and my uncle have passed on leaving the legacy to my brother and this year will be my brothers' last year after close to 45 years running up and down the fields with all the young men. It seems odd to me knowing there will no longer be a Hicks out on that field but I would like to let you guys know that they all served with honesty and integrity. It takes a special man to give his time and his money (they pay yearly dues) and I have been lucky enough to have been related to several of them.

Some criticism is fine, just not the constant bashing and making it personal. When every post a particular member makes is about bashing a coach, it's gone too far for that member. The posting of the video is a prime example of coach bashing. Folks have to understand the website side of this. We have to have good relationships with our local coaches. Those relationships are important to the success of this website.

  6. Exactly right. Cornel had the talent to find weaknesses in the other side, and he capitalized on them, big time. You can take a team 4 deep in the playoffs, with minimum talent, if you have a great coach.

  7. I personally don't think a fair assessment of how a head coach did or is doing can be made unless they've had a group of 7th graders make it to graduation. Also, expectations can at times be unrealistic and improvements, expectations, and culture changes need to be taken into account. Unfortunately that's not the case. Coaches are judged on wins/losses. Despite graduations.. despite classification changes.. despite district changes.. despite transfers (both in and out).. despite every single detail that can affect the failure/success of a team that's out of the coach's control. They're still judged on wins/losses solely. Coincidentally.. sometimes a fresh perspective can change the attitude of the entire program by bringing new excitement. I get that.. I just which it was approached in a more, "we'd like to change directions" type attitude instead of unwarranted negativity towards whoever the last person was. Again.. I get it, though. The average person isn't very intelligent and there are far more people with below average intelligence than above. That's just the way of the world.. so I won't pretend that how things probably should be are the way that they will be. So..

  10. We love the guy. He wasn't gonna fix the offense overnight. My concern is that the defense hasn't been as good as we need it to be to beat good teams. I think we'll get better as the season progresses.

  11. Coach Faircloth has lead SS to a 4-1 record beating Liberty-Eylau 24-6. Liberty-Eulau was ranked 15th in 4a d2. Coach Faircloth took over a SS team that was 0-10 last season. Before tonight's game SS was ranked #21 in 4a d1. His only loss this season coming at the hands of Hallsville a 5a d2 ranked #20 school. That loss was 34-21. SS hadn't won back to back games since 2018. I believe they had only won 4 games since 2018. This is a great example of the difference a great coach can make.

I agree with you here. That was a great coaching year. Four straight trips to state, then player personnel dropping and supposedly a "rebuilding year", then boom, a 4th round appearance. It was quite impressive.

  14. Correct. Not knocking the young man, but when I watched him play vs. Newton, I was impressed with him as being a freshman, but not once did I think he could be a top 10 National QB. Like you said, he's not even top 10 QB in the state for class of 2026.

  16. QB was certainly a good change and he played very well. He actually ran better than he passed. I certainly hope the Dogs continue to improve especially receivers and secondary Just don’t know how much they improved because Willowridge is now officially playing like and HISD school and I don’t see them winning a game this season If the Dogs can beat Dayton, I will say they have improved a bunch

  18. It was actually from PJ media......problem is, the mainstream media will not cover this especially before mid-terms......Remember when Hunter's laptop was Russian disinformation...only to find out after mid-terms it was not? Remember the disgraced 52 CIA agents that signed a letter that had all the signs of Russian disinformation.......they were wrong too So, I would not be too picky on where you prefer your news from

  25. I agree but even if they are signed off, the DEC can still deny the transfer as moving for athletic purposes. Knowing the makeup of this district, I don't see any transfer of WO-S player to LC-M to be approved by DEC. Again, UIL rarely goes against the local DEC in these matters.

  31. Special teams killed us from jumpstreet this past week. Defense made the stop and we give it right back to them on a turnover. That fumble ruined our momentum right off the bat. It was a bad decision should have let the ball go!. You can't give great teams second chances to capitalize off of easy turnovers and awesome field position. Hopefully we bounce back and get our ducks in a row!!! Weather should be alot better than what we had Saturday I look like a sunburned albino 😆

  33. Probably should understand the rules and not listen to outside "handlers" and influencers. You are right the kid gets hurt and the ones in his ear have nothing to lose. This all started during 7 on 7 during the summer.

  34. Let me just chime in and give some insight from someone from SS. Last year's record and this year's record are somewhat deceiving. Last year our first seven opponents, through the first seven weeks, had a combined record of 44-5. Two teams from last year are now in 6A, two more are in 5A D1, and two that are still in 5A D2 were top 10 teams. We were so beat down that by the time we got to some winnable games the kids were done and the coaches had one foot out the door. It was just a bad situation. This year we dropped to 4A. A softer schedule has as much to do with the turn around as the new coaching staff. It's a whole lot easier to win when you're one of the big schools in the class instead of the other way around. We were going to be better this year regardless of who the coach was. That being said, Faircloth is awesome. He is exactly what we needed. He's brought a new attitude, new energy, built confidence after being beaten down the last few years. The old coach was a great guy, won a state championship here, but he'd been here 13 years and it had ran it's course. It was time for a change and everyone knew it. Oh yea, one more thing, we play defense now, 15 ppg. So all the talk about Faircloth being strictly about the offense doesn't seem to apply here, at least not yet. We've never played defense here. Even the state championship game we won the score was 69-49, so we're not used to this. Faircloth is a smart guy, and I think he chose to come here for a reason. What most people on the outside may not know is the talent at our lower levels is absolutely loaded. JV is pretty good, but it's the Freshman that has everyone here buzzing. They've never lost a game and have outscored their opponents this year 174-14, and that's with two of the best freshmen starting on varsity. I had a retired coach who coached at the 5a/4a level tell me he has never seen a class this talented at any school he coached at or coached against. They are special. It really seems like the perfect combination of talent and coaching coming together at the right time to do something special. So, if you want to peek into the future, I can see Faircloth winning a state championship here in two or three years, or at least coming close. Then after that I would think he would have his pick of high profile jobs if he were looking to move up. I don't see him leaving any sooner than that with this much talent on the way. As for this year I'll stick with my prediction I made before the season. 9-3, 2nd place in district, two rounds deep in the playoffs.

  42. Hear me out. Or.. it’s possible.. that HD just isn’t very good. Which most knew but the “wE uPsEt A biGGER sChOoL” crowd kept insisting that they were better than they were. Despite the fact that the teams they “upset” gave up 75 last week and will go 0-10, gave up 60 last night and likely won’t win again, and the team that couldn’t be “upset” gave up 65 last night and likely won’t win another game. Sigh.. those pesky details. Anyway. Now the same coach that was praised before is ridiculed now. John.. HD55.. did either of you guys get the exact details? Perhaps there’s a reason that Bird shifted from your vast football knowledge. Was the kid hurt? Did he smart off to a teammate? Did he call a coach’s momma fat? Maybe WH made adjustments that you didn’t see. Maybe literally any reason Coach Bird thought of happened. I’m sure he knows both of you personally. Reach out instead of acting ridiculous on a public forum. Job applications? What a joke you are..

  44. I couldn't imagine what Coach Faircloths system would do offensively at WOS with all that speed. They might score 60 points a game and 500 yards. I often wondered what it would look like with him at the helm of a school with speed. Most may not know this but Faircloth came to PNG as the offensive coordinator at Odessa Permian. As the OC each season he broke all of their offensive records. Put that in your mind as to all of the great teams OP has had through the years. He is a true offensive guru. I wouldn't be surprised to see him coaching in some capacity on Saturdays in the future. One of his greatest attributes is his ability to develop quarterbacks where there were none before. Ask the Morse family, the Bost family, The Johnson family, the Doty Family, The Crippen family and so on. These kids became record breakers at PNG under Faircloth. I love our new coaching staff. They are the real deal. We were lucky to get the caliber of coaches we have. Ill always appreciate the 13 years we had with Coach Faircloth.

    Crosby vs PAM

PAM will run away and hide with this district. Crosby is simply terrible at the line of scrimmage. We will be outplayed there every game. Young backs don’t pick up the blitz and it’s going to be a year of watching a solid QB getting absolutely annihilated by the blitz. too many problems to fix. PAM wins by 28+ in this one.
