We’ve had our shares of success, to include a 1970 Class B state championship.  No industry here, and not a large tax base but great people and beautiful country.

@AggiesAreWe it's posted on their HS website and on coaching website I still belong to.  It surprised me to, I think he's done a good job with the athletes that he has from the outside looking in.

Vidor caught lightning in a bottle with English and a great run of athletes.  It's unreal to expect a coach to recreate that and this is the second time they've run off a really good coach because of that expectation.  I cannot imagine anyone better than Coach Smith who would want that job.

@TigerAlumni85 I saw it coming the more he started to win.  Craziest environment I have seen in sports in a while.  When he lost it seemed like parents were happy, but the more he won the madder people got.  The main reason is Bethea was hired after the principal who is a hometown girl, and she is the superintendent's friend.  People from there have told me that she wants to try and hire her brother to take over who is certified in the same subject area as Bethea.

Bethea took a 6-win 4th place team to a district championship and 15 wins.  However, he was told she wanted to go in a different direction with no reason or justification.  Politics in a small town can suck for sure.  I am glad I retired before I got into this profession, so this salary pays for my vacations.  Bethea will land on his feet but sucks for him because he did a good job with those young men.

Evadale Coach was told contract was not going to be renewed last week and now he has left Evadale from what I have heard. So add Evadale to the list of needing coach.  Everyone seen this one coming.

Absolute clown shoes over there.

So the parents wanted him (and their own children) to lose in order to accommodate the principal wanting to hire her brother?  That makes no sense to me and I would bet there is much more to this story.  I'm sure someone will fill us all in soon!

There was a lot more to it. I went to several games and witnessed several things. Even asked why he was leaving a player in with 3 fouls in tart of second Qtr, he turned and said are you serious I didn’t realize he had 3 fouls and called time out to get him out. The call to remove him was made right after the season started because of some things that were said to the team players and him having someone else come in at practice and talk to them and somewhat coach them. Several complaints were made and it was addressed with him. Also lost several of the older players because of it, why we finished with several underclass man playing. There is something to say about a coach that has been with several teams in a very short time and most of them for 1 season. He seemed like a very nice guy but I have been around basketball all my life and I told my wife after the second game he will never make it as a coach. To win district wasn’t that hard considering most of the other schools lost players and district was weak other than West Hardin and Evadale had enough talent to pull it out.

The off-court stuff definitely doesn't sound great, but it is usually the assistant coach's job to keep track of player fouls and let the head coach know about foul trouble.

No.... this is what started the conversation and someone having to have a sit down because the person had nothing to do with school and would come in and pretty much take over the practices. Shortly after is when some of the older boys left the team, mine wouldn't have left (that's the parent's fault) if he was still there but I would have had a serious conversation with the appropriate people about some of the things that were said, and the coach let it happen. If you came to any of the games, then you knew the coaching knowledge was lacking in several areas of the court. All coaches have to learn somewhere but usually it starts as an assistant and not the head coach. Evadale needs to change a few things and pay for a quality coach if that is what they are wanting, obviously the money you offer limits what you can afford as they just learned. Hey, my son graduated so it wasn't my issue just felt bad for several of the players during the game.

I've been told different, but I'll assume it's somewhere in the middle.
