are you on texasbowhunter.com?  I came up with "The Great Outdoors" several years ago on here, figuring that the majority of our members would be hunters, but the section never got much traffic.

Nope….maybe I should look into it.

this is the only type of social media I do.

I ve commented/started topics in the great outdoors in the past but not many seem interested.🤷‍♂️

bow season is the best time of the year….IMO….I see more deer because no one else around me bow hunts….

I put out corn in the field behind my house yesterday at 4:15 because my cousin finally got around to cutting and haying it.  At 6:30 a shooter buck came out into the corn.  I haven't ever seen a shooter behind my house (apart from spikes).

Nice!!!!

I hunt about 300 yards from my front porch.

Putting up the tree stands now!

Got two tall shooter 8s coming once a week and occasionally twice a week for the last 2 months

and even better I ve got does coming more often than the bucks.

For about the 8th year in a row I've failed to get anything ready to bow hunt.  I keep saying I'm going to put a stand up behind my house, but I've yet to do it.  I think mostly because I don't have much of a desire to kill any of my "pets", and all of the pigs are nocturnal, with it being a very rare occurrence that I see one in the day.  When I do, it's only about 210 yds from the back porch to the tree line, and I knock down about 4 out 5 that I shoot at from the porch.  As for my actual deer lease, it's all family and nobody else bow hunts.  It's a 3 hr 45 min drive from the house, and my dad has about 2 1/2 hrs in from outside dallas.  A big motivator for me going that far north is hunting with my dad, and he won't be up there until gun season.  I don't really want to put in a bunch of time bow hunting when it would just be me and my uncle (lives there) hanging out.

Understandable.

i get all my bow hunting stuff in place by Aug 1st….

I bow hunt because my percentage of getting a deer is very high.  Daytime deer at my place is pretty common up until rifle season and then they go nocturnal…..time change/rifle hunter pressure🤷‍♂️

Normally I would only rifle hunt a handful of times and it would only be during the week, but now my 3 year old son (soon to be 4) likes to go so I foresee us in the blind more this year.

In the past I would send one of my two older daughters to the blind (weekend) with a library book and walkie talkie….if they see one they radio me and I ll walk about 50 yds up a small hill from my shop……about 160 yd shot….usually use a 270 but I just inherited m1 carbine from my grandfather, so I may give it a go.

A tikka .270 has been my go to for the last few years.  That thing is a tack driver

63 this morning

whats going on?  Don’t ever remember it being this cool this early in September

seems like we usually get a weak front or two this time of year.  I'm not complaining.  it was 64 when I left the house this morning.  Still gonna be pushing 90 today

It was 60 at my place around 4:15 this morning

what a difference 2 months make. I went from having daily showings to 1 pic in the last 3 weeks.

🤷‍♂️

Around the corner!

Hey, I never hunt around here.  Just had a buck with his nose to ground following 30 seconds behind a doe in my field.  You ever see rutting activity this early?  I’ve heard it happens sooner down here than up north, but this seems very early.  We usually see ours around the 2nd week of November in NETX where my lease is.

Velvet shed is the first stage of rut. Not sure on timing up north but bucks down south have already shed their velvet.  Bucks start going solo and seeing whose dominant.

that is a lil odd this early on.  Maybe he s ready to get the party started😁

the peak is usually beginning part of November.

Anyone kill anything yet?  I killed a small, but legal 10 point.  Ready for gun season to crank up this weekend

I passed on some small bucks and small doe

the coyote s and hogs have wrecked havoc for me this year.

the pond (watering hole) dried up so the drought changed their patterns.  Have nt seen many shooters (meaty) this year.

Up until about 2 weeks ago, I was getting steady flow on shooter bucks almost daily. They were definitely moving around together. I had a small run of hogs for a few days in a row, and I have gotten 1-2 decent pics sent since. I saw a doe and a young nubber this past weekend, but other than that it has been dead for several days. Hoping the cold front moving in at the end of the week will get them moving around my area again.
