I've been buying DC's for a while and not that I've actually checked to see every time but I honestly can't remember the last time they didn't pick PNG to go to the playoffs from their district. On the other hand, they did lose to the team that's picked in front of them last year. 

Another notable thing is that they have FB Marshall over Huntsville in the D2 regional final.

Yeah i’m not sold on Texas City, but I think PNG has adjusted that defense and will be back in the top 4. BH has a good lot coming back on the skill side, but time will tell if Abseck can get them going by district. Overall I don’t think you will see any team dominating district this year which will make for some good football 👍

PNG should be a pretty solid team all around. We have a stellar fieldgoal kicker. A bunch back on defense a new DC and a QB who has garnered accolades across the state in camps over the summer. The o-line will be pretty big this season ad well..

 A lot to be excited about. Hopefully the defense can pick up from the FB Marshall game and have a better season than last year. I’m not worried about the offense, we’ll be fine. But I think until we show otherwise a fifth place preseason pick is the right call. Nederland, Crosby, and BH finished the season unquestionably better than us. And the loss to Texas City at that score was kind of embarrassing.

With Crosby kicking off their season on 8/26 we're officially one month out from 12-5A-D2 trying to prove that they're once again the best district in the region. With Crosby playing Carthage being on a Thursday and everybody else basically kicking off Friday I expect some pretty big online viewing numbers. Would be awesome if they put this one on KUBE a.k.a. the North Shore/Katy network.

The top five are the top five and the bottom three are the bottom three. Any one team in either of those groups could jumble around within its group. Some major question marks hang over all five teams in playoff contention.

Nederland has 4/5 starters returning for 2021 

OFFENSE

The Bulldogs will have a relatively young squad as only 4 starters return to the multiple set offense in 2021.  The backfield should see some new faces as senior Luke Broussard currently has the lead in the quarterback battle and will be joined by senior Ethan Fobbs.  The Bulldog receiver corp has a solid foundation to build around as senior wide receiver Kyndon Fuselier (12-5A-II District MVP, Honorable Mention TSWA All-State) returns.  The skills group will be operating behind a veteran offensive line lead by seniors Mike Marshall (1st team all-district) and Holder Craver (2nd team all-district) as well as junior lineman Jack Bieber.   

 

DEFENSE

Five starters return to the Nederland 4-2-5 defense in 2021.  The front line will be formed around junior Landon Caywood (2nd team all-district in 2021) and senior Jacob Kotz and will feature the return of senior lineman Gabe Lopez from injury in 2020.  Senior inside linebacker Jaice Beck (1st team all-district) will head a linebacker crew which will also feature outside linebacker Kaydon Gonzales.  Senior cornerback Steven Bourgeois (1st team all-district in 2021) will lead a secondary which will also feature Fuselier.

Just so I could be filled in, what is major question mark around Crosby? Crosby has won outright or tied for the district championship 5 of the last 7 years, the only two we didn't were due to a torn ACL in Vidor's mudpit and then the financial crisis during Prieto's first year.

We have the most talent in the district and play the toughest non-district schedule which should have us the most prepared entering league play, same way it did last year. Unless we lose the last game of district play like we did in '14, '17 and '20 I expect us to be coming off at least 9 straight victories when we line it up against FB Marshall in the third round.

I think the whole district ought to surrender to Crosby right now. Cancel all the Crosby games, Give ‘em trophy, and everyone else play for 2nd-4th. Why even bother.

Losing as many seniors people will doubt. No worries it will all be sorted out in the field soon.

I would normally be worried too but we have all the pieces to replace them. This year’s team is going to have more raw talent, they’re just going to be young. Season will depend on how fast they get up to speed? 
 

What I would point out is that before we played Nederland last year our average margin of victory in district play was 40ppg. It’s not like we were winning squeakers. Even with some regression does that mean we only win by 20ppg this year? I wouldn’t be surprised if we started 0-3 but I also wouldn’t be surprised if we started 3-0. 
 

By the way, I’m hearing we may have a new free agent from 21-6A to help ease some of the losses on defense. Goes about 6-3 215lbs and will line up at OLB.

Yeah, this is often the response when you lay the facts out. No exaggeration, in 10 years on this site I’ve probably seen this response over 100 times.  .  .  and then the boys go take care of business.

Well I will give ya this. Crosby is THE best Baytown team in the state by far.  Congrats.

If someone just wandered into the forum they might think we are discussing North Shore or Aledo or Katy here. What's Crosby made it out of the second round of the playoffs three times the last decade?

It is what it is. North Shore has robbed a bunch of Channelview and CE King kids over the years. Katy has done it to their entire district. Allen and Desoto have been notorious landing spots for DFW free agents, Duncanville is now that team. On a less notable level Dobie has robbed PISD squads of talent for years.  

If you're good they'll start coming. I'm not aware of any Baytown kids that will start for Crosby this year? We have a couple of transfers from Humble ISD this year, one looks he's going to be a stud and one looks like he's already folded under the competition. 

People can beat their chest all they want about having all homegrown talent. When you're lined up across from squads like FB Ridge Point, FB Marshall, Pearland Dawson, Manvel, Cedar Park, Aledo, etc. getting your behind whipped with their transfers that sentiment changes real fast.
