I’ll have to disagree with you on this one…I know you’re a big basketball guy…but despite historically not being a good football program it’s still what brings the WISD communities together….even though baseball and basketball have been much more successful over the years…just my opinion though…

I certainly respect your opinion but we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one. For a 3A school Warrens football crowds are marginal at best. With our demographics , lack of industry and no public housing we’re going to have a hard time attracting the numbers of athletes it takes to be successful in football at the 3A level. Just by numbers alone it doesn’t take as many athletes to compete in basketball and baseball.  I wish Warren nothing but the best in their search for a new AD/HC in football by I honestly don’t think the lack of coaching abilities has been the reason for our dismal showing on the field.

You are right, Darrel and Brian are at Jasper. However, the kids have to want to put in the extra work. Newton graduates this Friday and the kids that will be coming back next year will be in the weight room next week just as they have been doing since the end of football this year.

Newton competes in powerlifting every year and have several coaches coaching powerlifting. Does Warren have a powerlifting program?  Powerlifting is required for all football players and a record is kept on the progress of each player.
Powerlifting and success go hand in hand when all the kids buy into it.

I just looked at the THSPA website for the last 2 seasons and couldn't a find a boy's name associated with Warren.  Places like Warren need powerlifting to be able to try and get their kids competitive and to try and build something on the boy's side that has some success.  They could also use that on the girl's side as well.

I hope they're able to find a person that will buy in and help to overcome the inadequacies of genetics and apathy.  When you've got a gene pool that can't compete as they get off the bus you've got to have heart and work ethic and when you have a track record of what Warren does it tends to show the kids aren't getting the foundational base they need to be able to overcome their lack of athleticism (that comes from home).

In a lot of ways, at least in football, I see Warren a lot like Huntington.  They never made the play-offs and the 1st 2 years they did all they did is have kids complain about having to be in football for another week.

That Barbay is the receivers coach at Central Michigan.

Now the OC/QB coach.  He's also been at Lamar, Colorado State, Florida and SFA since at Warren.  Great guy and coach, I just believe Warren is a tough place to win in football.  Not saying it isn't a great place because I've never been there just seems tough to win.

I think if Warren would consider giving the AD job to a top notch basketball or baseball coach the overall success of the athletic programs could improve. I have seen Warren field excellent baseball and softball teams in the not so distant past. They also put some solid basketball teams on the hardwood a few years back under Leland Hand and Chris Carter. I’m just throwing a suggestion out there. Everyone always says hire a AD/HC in football and it may be time to rethink those hires.

Not saying this wouldn’t work in Warren… but has this ever worked out for the better anywhere else?

The schools I mentioned have been successful in the other sports. Warren has had some solid coaches over the years. It ain’t the HC in my opinion.

Who? I’m not sure I follow your question. Do you want solid coaches that have been in Warren or successful schools that don’t play football and attach the AD tag to other sports ?

That #$&** probably wants Art Briles in Warren like everywhere else. Just ask @WOSgrad

It appeared you were talking about football head coaches at Warren.  If you were not, then never mind.  But, if you were then that was what the "who" was for.

Yes sir I was talking about football coaches. I can think of 3 right off the top of my head. Coach Ramsey who went to the staff at WOS , Coach Barbay who still is an OC at the collegiate level and the young guy who left to be the AD/HC at Lumberton. I don’t know any of their career records at Warren but all 3 are pretty solid football coaches. I think their success after leaving Warren would back that up. I believe TJ was the only one to make the playoffs in Warren .

She’s been posting the basketball job for 4 weeks lol, the sup doesn’t know what to look for…the new AD should be posting the jobs.

The superintendent started her career in coaching so she probably has a pretty good idea of what to look for…and without a current AD she would be the one to post job openings…

Depends.

just cause someone has coached before doesn’t necessarily mean they know what to look for.

how successful was she?

that’s like saying “I ve played the sport so I can coach the sport”
