Silsbee at LCM

Just received word that there will only be one game tonight due to Silsbee varsity having to quarantine. Silsbee will be sending what they have (a mix of JV and 9th teams) to play the varsity game. Silsbee did not want to forfeit. They will also have to do the same next Tuesday for home game vs. Vidor.

Yep.

I never liked this districts covid protocol of making a team forfeit if they could not field a varsity team. Vidor having to forfeit their first district game this season was so bogus. Particularly since the week following was a week of non-district games and could have been made up then. Also, other districts are revamping schedules to avoid having teams forfeit. Why can't this district? UIL has allowed three games per week now just to try to help in these matters.

I can understand the time crunch when districts are in the 2nd half of play but it makes no sense to forfeit games this early in the season when you have time to make them up.

But, precedent has been made with Vidor having to forfeit a game. So teams will just have to make do when they encounter these issues.

Completely agree.  The Vidor ruling was beyond ridiculous.   But you’re right - once that set the precedent, there’s no going back.  Hard to imagine what they were thinking when so many other districts are doing makeups.

The silver lining, if there is one, is you draw the two weakest teams in the district for these two games.  However, when you had so many youngsters already up on varsity, it’s still a hard hill to climb.

Well there goes district 😞

How bad is Vidor? Maybe, just maybe, we can pull that one off and come away tied for first place.

How is potentially losing tonight's game a loss of the district title?

Silsbee can lose the game but still win district. They could lose two games and still be #1 seed.

Assuming they lose the next two games, they could still win out right if they beat Lumberton again, so I guess you're right.

Still, these boys can't get caught slipping at all against any team when they get back.

    • Really good hire! As I stated previously on this thread, Mike T has been an essential part of WB’s success the last few years & is a student of the game & I have a ton of respect for how he goes about things as a coach. Big on teaching kids how to do things the right way to prepare them for not only basketball but the game of life. He’ll be fine there, my only question is what kind of talent does WB have returning?  Best thing about this situation for Mike T is WB will be 5A for at least the next 2 years, so he should win a lot of games & have some deep playoff runs.
    • So which coaches kid gets the QB job? Trotter or Barrier
    • A Winnie land owner (and others) sued the State of Texas after they built IH-10 a few feet higher in order to help contain storm flooding. Sure enough a hurricane hit and flooded the land. The storm improvements worked!! Unfortunately the state sacrificed several people’s properties in using the interstate highway as a dam.  Richard DeVillier tried to sue Texas under our laws and Constitution and the US Constitution under the Fifth Amendment “taking clause” (eminent domain). After a favorable ruling in the federal district court on the right to sue Texas directly, the Fifth Circuit Court in New Orleans overturned that ruling and said that the DeVlier had no authority to sue Texas directly.  On Tuesday a unanimous US Supreme Court ruled that DeVillier and others had the right to sue Texas directly under Texas law and under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. The case is now sent back down to the lower court. DeVillier and others have not won their lawsuits as the case has not been decided on its merits at a trial. He still has to go to prove his case. What they did win was a unanimous Supreme Court agreeing that he has the right to bring Texas to trial for taking his property with just compensation.
