I wouldn’t move up unless it’s for sun belt... but I do think if they do go to wac I would hope Mcneese gets a invite too.

From what I've read on Smoaky, the WAC will go FCS for football......ive seen where the following are mentioned as football members.....

SFA

Sam Houston

Lamar

Abilene Christian

Southern Utah

Northern Colorado

Montana

West Texas A & M

Tarleton

Angelo State

This is dumb. The only reason to leave the Southland is if they are going to play up in FBC. To move to another FCS conference, let alone one that's so far flung out, is going to waste money on a  department that already depends on student fees to keep it afloat.

This stinks of the last time Lamar left the Southland, last time it was to become a big time basketball school.

I'm glad that Lamar is thinking about it's future. I wish it would do more academically like open a law school or a medical school like Sam Houston state is doing.

But let's not go to the WAC. Call up Conference USA. Better still, call up the Sunbelt and remind them you are a founding member. The travel is a lot better, these conferences already have television packages and names people are vaguely familiar with.

Lamar and Sun Belt were in talks a few years ago... If anything sun belt or C-USA or stay...

I agree the wac is not the answer. Ask any of the kids playing and the highlight of their careers is playing the big dogs. Who cares about playing Rio Grand valley, Chicago st or any of the rest that no one has heard of. Go FBS or stay where you are. SFA will jump to the first thing that comes along. They think they can be big hog at the trough with these glorified D2 schools.

I don't get the rationale???

WAC stated they hope to be a 2 bid NCAA Basketball conference...What two teams? They don't have one team now that screams bid and of the teams they are adding the strongest SH, ACU and SFA are fighting for one bid in the SLC.

I agree. They are still going to be an FCS football conference so what is really the difference except the travel?

I don’t see anything changing.

I think they split into two divisions East and West for some sports. Baseball and basketball will be better then the Southland. I still don’t understand the move though.

East- LU, SH, SFA, ACU, UTRGV, Tarleton

West- NM St, Dixie St, Utah Valley, Southern Utah, GCU, Cal Baptist, Seattle

I don't understand the move.  What are lamar, sfa, abilene christian and SHSU getting out of this move?  Is there more money or exposure in this conference?

It is just a better conference with more money and exposure.  But with the three best athletic programs in the conference bolting, the Southland drops to the bottom of the barrel.  Lamar is fortunate to get the fourth invite (ala Baylor working its way in the Big 12 with Texas, A&M and Tech).  Word also is that the WAC is looking to move back to FBS in the near future, which would up the money considerably obviously.

    • That is yet to be determined in trial. ”Taking” in the Fifth Amendment doesn’t mean ownership, title changing hands, etc. A government can “take” your property without “taking” your properties.  That has been true.  This issue is, did Texas take the property under the Fifth Amendment and subsequent Supreme Court rulings and not the dictionary definition of “taking”. As always in the law, definitions matter.
    • Wrong again. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up   The day that Trump took office, our nation debt stood at 19.9 Trillion dollars (End of Q4, 2016).  After his tax cuts (without corresponding cuts in spending), the national debt stood at 23.2 Trillion dollars at the end of Q1 of 2020 that was the Start of COVID, FYI... Or a total increase in debt of almost 17% during Trump's first three years (and one quarter) in office.  At the end of his reign (with COVID spending for which Trump himself signed off on) was at 27.7 Trillion Dollars.  That's a 39% increase in the National Debt while Trump was in office.  For further reference, Biden inherited a 27.7 Trillion dollar debt to start.  At the end of Q4 2023, the debt stands at 34 Trillion.  That's an increase of 19% over the first three years. I know that math and facts hurt your feelings, but Trump was horrible for the country before he allowed "them Dirty Democrats to shut down the economy."  Anybody that says "Trump was good for the country" doesn't know the first thing about micro/macro economics or the effects of deficit spending.  Trump hurt us like no other president, period.  Anybody that says "Trump was good for the economy" is actually stating for the rest of us with some sense "I don't know what I'm talking about."
    • But of course you wouldn’t understand the saying. You’re so clever. Your education precedes you.
    • Hmmmm..... Didn't they just win a football state championship?
    • The fact that you try to bolster your assertion that Trump was a bad president by using "facts" that are not attributable to him is disinformation at it's worse. It is "lying by omission", which is just another way to say big ol' fat lie. Unemployment was going down to record lows before Covid hit. You and I and almost everyone on Earth knows this, but somehow you try to spin this stat as a knock on Trump. Same for the stock market. LYING BY OMISSION. A tactic almost as old as prostitution. The debt and spending exploding due to Trump is just an old fashioned bald face lie. You seem to follow the mantra "if you tell a lie enough times it becomes fact." You are starting to resemble Biden now. Do you have any other whoppers to share?
