Let’s get the discussion started, this should be a good game. The #5 state ranked 4AD2 school 3-0 Jasper vs 2-0 Vidor a rising 4AD1 newcomer. Can the Pirates limit their mistakes and slow the Jasper running backs? Can Jasper hold down the Vidor rushing attack that is averaging almost 400 yards a game.

Don’t know the stats on what Vidor has allowed on the ground but I don’t think it’s much. We have given up some big plays in the air but I think Vidors defense is up for the task. We just need to minimize the self inflicted errors on offense. I bet the boys are Jacked Up for this game. It I’ll be a good measuring stick as to where they are as a team. Go Pirates!

Jasper is definitely the favorite but if Vidor can pull off the upset it may open some eyes and give them a significant bump in the rankings. IF they can pull it off and prove that they are a contender, the Pirates will be favored in every district game and could have a chance to run the table.

They may favored but I like our chances.

This should be a pretty good test for both teams. Jasper had some problems in the first half last night against H-J, but they made a few adjustments at halftime and shut out the Hawks in the second half.

If the game is close at halftime, I think Jasper has the slight edge. Vidor's gonna have to jump on the Bulldogs early, I think. I'm not sure how our team will handle that kind of situation.

The Bulldogs have a major issue with the kicking game right now. Kickoffs and punts are fine, but PATs have been an adventure, whether we're talking about kicks or going for two. That will factor into a game like this one.

I'll take Jasper by 5, something like 32-27. I'm being as objective as I can be. I know we're all homers here. 😁

Easily the toughest opponent Vidor will face until several rounds in the playoffs.   Win or lose, just hope the Pirates eliminate the mistakes.   I think Jasper fans might be a little surprised seeing the Shot T, but of corse the Bulldogs will be ready.   No idea about the Jasper passing game, but heard they have some great RB’s.   Vidor needs time consuming drives with no TO’s, & stop the big plays on D.   Everything tells me this has to be a great game.

in 2015 the Pirates had a qb that could flat out run their offense.  Humble? maybe was his name?  they whipped our tails that night 42-21 (it really was not as close as the score would lead  you to believe).

The DAWGS were lost all night trying to figure out where the ball was. at times it was embarrassing.

Most likely the QB was either Fawcett or little Quirante they were both able to run the offense pretty well. Humble was a good Running back for Vidor for a few years. That team had some talent but they had a terrible season aside from the Jasper game. They put it all together the following year, beat Ned at their place and beat PA at home for a share of the DC. Our arch nemesis Crosby put us out in the first round of the playoffs though. We love to give Crosby hell but we really had a good competitive rivalry with them for several years. Hopefully we can build something here in 4A and rekindle some good old rivalries with Jasper and the local perineal powerhouse teams in the area.

You do have the advantage of having just seen a similar offense, HJ has an old coach from Vidor and I think they run a similar scheme. The Pirates have put in a few wrinkles this season but it’s no secret. Run, run and run. When that’s not working, run it some more.

Easily?? Pretty bold statement.

Huffman will be a challenge in district play. If Vidor were to win district, the first round shouldn't be a problem. 2nd round Vidor would likely see Brazosport or Bay City again. 3rd round Henderson or Kilgore. 4th round El Campo most likely.

Jasper may end up being better than all the teams I listed, but not easily.

Just not that often most teams play a highly ranked team.   Yes, Huffman’s record of 3-0 is impressive, but Stafford 0-4, Needville 1-3, and Navasota 2-2, are hardly comparable to #5 in the State, Jasper.   So based on the info you provided, it’ll be round 3 or 4 before Vidor faces anyone of Jasper’s caliber, but that’s just my opinion.   And I’m not sure Vidor will beat Huffman, much less Jasper.  On the plus side, I don’t think any of 4AD1 Reg 3 teams are in the top ten.

Just a quick question.   Argyle vs La Vega, who do you like?

Vidor is the kind of team that can beat Jasper.  Big, strong and they do what they do very well.  I would not be shocked to see Vidor win this one, and I think they will win it... if they can limit the big plays.

Yep. It's all about ball control to me. If they can stop Limbrick & Co., they'll probably win the game.

It’s going to be a fun game, a battle of who will win up front. Whoever can control the line of scrimmage will win the game. Old school football for old farts like @Hagar.

I guess that makes me an old fart, too. Games like these remind me of 80's football. We ran the veer at Jasper in those days and only passed when we had to unless we had a quarterback that could throw really well out of play action. I've always loved that style of play and I think kids had to be in better shape to play physical football like that. That was the biggest indicator of winning programs back then in my opinion.

As easy as Argyle made it look last night beating La Vega 35-7.  they looked better at every position on the field.

yes, I know La Vega will be a tough out come playoff time........i am just saying  35>7

Heck, never looked at dates.  Assumed they were playing next Friday. 😜

I was suspicious about La Vega.  They were winning, but not impressively.  Still, Argyle must be a power.  35-7 is impressive when 1 is playing 2.

LV not worried about them in the regular season, they like to beat em in the postseason.
