GOOSE CREEK MEMORIAL PATRIOTS

2019 Record: 3-7 Overall; 2-5 District

6th Place in District 9-5A-I

 

The 2019 season was a rough one for new coach Shannon Carter and the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots as they finished on the outside looking in to the Class 5A, Division I playoffs.  Carter is counting on an experienced squad (eight starters return on each side of the ball) to build on last year and return the Patriots to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

 

COACHING

Assistant Coaches: Daniel Ragsdale (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks), Robert Lewis (Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers), Kevin Kennerly (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers), Cameron Young (Offensive Line), Dwayne Dever (Offensive Line), Tate Gresham (Running Backs), Corey Cook (Wide Receivers), Kyle Consemiu (Tight Ends), Derek Hufnagel (Safeties), Joel McMillan (Cornerbacks), Oluwasegun Adebayo (Defensive Line), McNeil Greenridge (Defensive Line), Jamie Hutchison (Outside Linebackers), Brandon Bohanon (Linebackers)

 

OFFENSE

Eight starters return to the Goose Creek Memorial offense in 2020.  While the starting quarterback position is yet to be finalized, senior running back Brice Lane (1st team all-district) will provide some stability to the rushing game.  The passing game will have a strong receiver corp as senior wide outs Jalen Davis, Jaylon Thompson, Peter Semien and Hosea Lane all return with sophomores Ben Gatson and Omaree Crawford also expected to contribute.  Junior tackles Riley Banks (1st team all-district) and Ethan Dyson return to lead the offensive line.  Look for senior Taaron Roberts to also contribute to the Patriot offense.

 

DEFENSE

Eight starters return to the GCM 3-4 defense in 2020.  Senior defensive ends Richie Rodney (2nd team all-district) and Jaden Gilbert-Burton bring experience to the defensive line. The linebacker corp will be a strength as junior outside linebackers Jayson Gipson (2nd team all-district) and Josiah Rice return along with senior inside linebackers Bryce Johnston (2nd team all-district) and Hector Ochoa.  Junior cornerback Auriel Hector (2nd team all-district) and senior safety Dezmond Johnson return to anchor the Patriot secondary which will also include Crawford.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Senior Luis Acosta will handle the place kicking while Johnston will do the punting.  Kick return assignments will be finalized during fall practice.
