HUNTINGTON RED DEVILS

2019 Record: 1-10 Overall, 1-3 District

4th Place in District 9-4A-II

 

It has been a historic past two seasons for the Huntington Red Devils as they scratch and clawed to earn the first two playoff berths in school history.  Coach Joshua Colvert is confident that the Red Devils will even exceed that as wealth of experienced starters (8 offensive starters and 9 starting defenders) return adds to the fact that the Devils are now competing in Class 3A which should find them even more competitive.

 

COACHING

Assistant Coaches: Mark Olbert (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers), Josh Robertson (Offensive Coordinator), Steve Bratton (Offensive Line), Todd Ricks (Offensive Line), Ja'Michael Brown (Running Backs/Safeties), Elwin Lamon (Cornerbacks), Braden Foster (Defensive Line), Heath Flowers (Defensive Line), Richard Martinez, Will Tamplin, Cody Andrews, Matt Andrews, Nathaniel Navarro, Bryan Parker

 

OFFENSE

Eight starters return to the Huntington power spread in 2020. Junior quarterback Garrett Chancelor (9-4A-II Newcomer of the Year, 118-246, 1,526 yd, 11 TD in 2019) returns to lead the Red Devil attack.  Senior running back Kenny Flood returns to join him. Senior receiver Nick Paxon will not only be a factor in the running game, but he will be a key element in passing game along with senior receiver Austin Harris and junior wide out Aiden Colbert, as well as junior tight end Luke Smith, who will also be key in blocking for the running game, senior Blaine Trekell, senior receiver Hunter Mayes and sophomore receiver Mason Dilday.  Senior center Colton Kelley will be counted on to lead a talented offensive line which also feature senior offensive tackle Jordan Payne (2nd team all-district) and junior guard Aydan Henson.

 

DEFENSE

Nine starters return to the Red Devil 50 defense in 2020.  Experience will be the name of the game up front as Payne, at nose guard, will be on a line that will also include Henson, Smith and senior defensive end Noah Ross.  Outside linebacker Flood (2nd team all-district), Blaine and Paxon will line up at linebacker along with Dilday.  Huntington will be particularly strong in the secondary as safeties Mayes (2nd team all-district) and senior safety Jacob Smith will roam the secondary along with cornerback Colbert (1st team all-district).

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Colbert will handle both the place kicking and punting duties for Huntington while Mayes will be the primary kick returner.
