Vidor vs Silsbee

This ought to be one of the premier games of opening night.   The Tigers did well against PNG & Nederland last year.   Lost to PNG in a high scoring affair, and beat the Bulldogs.   Vidor moving down to 4A, but they better bring the intensity they showed in 5A, or the Tigers will burn them.   Not sure how long it’s been since these two played, but this ought to be a slobber knocker.   Don’t know how many starters either team lost, but they’re both decent programs.

And yes, they don’t play until 8/28, but we can snap the ball right now on the Forum, and I’m sick of the Virus, looting, and defund the Police, so let’s play ball.

They have been scrimmaging each other the last two seasons.

Reloading year for Silsbee

I was just going to say that.  Silsbee graduated a lot.  The two big guns Taylor and Martin are gone.  And I believe the FB/linebacker is gone too.  They will be hurting leading up to district.  Of course they still have Arline and Foster, but I don’t know how fast that duo will click.  And I don’t know if there will be any receivers like Turk, White, or Cartwright will be on the outside.

I got Vidor wining by two scores...

Yeah I tend to agree, especially with it being week one. Silsbee over the past few years has gotten off to slower starts and gets better as the season goes on. If this was a 3-4 games in I’d take the Tigers. But I’ll take Vidor by 13 to start the year.

Silsbee has 6 returning starters on offense and 8 returning starters on defense.

But does what they lost out weigh that? Teams like Kountze, Warren, Huntington return starters all the time but still don’t have much success . That’s what some were meaning when they say Silsbee lost a lot.

This is exactly what I’m talking about.  Yea, those kids return, but you probably can’t replace the talent of Martin and Taylor so easily.  Those two kids came in from day one answered the call when that last group of great talent left and have been serious gamers on Varsity for 3 years.  I hope I’m wrong, but I didn’t see any kids of that caliber ready to fill those shoes.

I believe Silsbee will hurt on the offensive line the most. Arline, Foster, Gilder, Hatton and don't forget the return of Malik Jones, who actually looked really good in the scrimmages before he got hurt , should take care of the skill positions on offense.

Defense should be good. Just have to nail down a couple of secondary spots.

Silsbee should win by 10. Foster looks like he has lost weight and toned up in the off season. I think he could be quicker on the zone read this year. I expect him to be a better passed and own the offense for sure. Silsbee 6-4 regular season and plays in the playoffs until the see Carthage. Whatever round that is!

Secondary shouldn’t be a big factor against Vidor.  😂😂😂

No Pirate posters with an idea of returning starters?   I have heard they have a nose guard coming back who’s like a gorilla on steroids, but that’s all I know about them.   If, Silsbee has trouble with the Teams that run the Slot T well, they’ll have trouble with the Pirates.   I’d guess one TD win at the most - by whoever wins it.

Btw, sure fun to be talking football again, regardless of what’s going to happen.

What teams has Silsbee struggled vs that run the Slot T in the last 2-3 years? Because I can’t think of any lol

They haven’t faced any that I’m aware of in that time span. I’m aware of.

Somebody from Silsbee can correct me if I’m off about that.

Correction.... Lumberton has been running it some, but not well

    • That’s a president? How embarrassing.
    • Really good hire! As I stated previously on this thread, Mike T has been an essential part of WB’s success the last few years & is a student of the game & I have a ton of respect for how he goes about things as a coach. Big on teaching kids how to do things the right way to prepare them for not only basketball but the game of life. He’ll be fine there, my only question is what kind of talent does WB have returning?  Best thing about this situation for Mike T is WB will be 5A for at least the next 2 years, so he should win a lot of games & have some deep playoff runs.
    • So which coaches kid gets the QB job? Trotter or Barrier
    • A Winnie land owner (and others) sued the State of Texas after they built IH-10 a few feet higher in order to help contain storm flooding. Sure enough a hurricane hit and flooded the land. The storm improvements worked!! Unfortunately the state sacrificed several people’s properties in using the interstate highway as a dam.  Richard DeVillier tried to sue Texas under our laws and Constitution and the US Constitution under the Fifth Amendment “taking clause” (eminent domain). After a favorable ruling in the federal district court on the right to sue Texas directly, the Fifth Circuit Court in New Orleans overturned that ruling and said that the DeVlier had no authority to sue Texas directly.  On Tuesday a unanimous US Supreme Court ruled that DeVillier and others had the right to sue Texas directly under Texas law and under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. The case is now sent back down to the lower court. DeVillier and others have not won their lawsuits as the case has not been decided on its merits at a trial. He still has to go to prove his case. What they did win was a unanimous Supreme Court agreeing that he has the right to bring Texas to trial for taking his property with just compensation.
