JASPER BULLDOGS

2019 Record: 8-2 Overall, 4-0 District

District 9-4A-II Champions

2019 was a season of promise for the Jasper Bulldogs as Darrell Barbay's Dawgs started the season ranked in the Top 5 in Class 4A, Division II rankings.  But the Bulldogs' season ended too soon for the folks from Jasper County.  However, 2020 shows even more hope as ten starters on offense return along with seven defenders in a district that has definitely ticked up in its degree of difficulty.

COACHING

Head Coach: Darrell Barbay

Assistant Coaches: Bryan Barbay (Offensive Coordinator), Trey Allen (Defensive Coordinator), Rashad Anderson, Brady Barbay, Randy Birdwell, Malcolm Bronson, Ryan Bronson, Randall Reich, Stephen Westbrook

OFFENSE

Ten starters return to the Jasper multiple wing offense in 2020.  Senior quarterback Trashawn Adams (2nd team all-district, 53-77, 777 yd, 6 TD in 2019) returns to pace the Bulldog offense. Senior running back Carl Limbrick (1st team all-district,  107 carries, 1309 yd, 25 TD) will join him in the backfield along with running back Andria Thomas.  Senior Micah Pickering will lead the Bulldog receiver corp.  Senior tackles Shunmarkus Adams (1st team all-district) and Myles Moye (2nd team all-district) return to lead an offensive line which will also include Jermaine Thomas and Wayne Preacher.

DEFENSE

Seven starters return to the Jasper 3-4 defense in 2020.  Defensive tackle Jayden Williams (1st team all-district) and nose guard Gage Spikes (2nd team all-district) lead an defensive line which will also feature Preacher and junior Delandrick Johnson.  Junior linebacker Kaleb Sells (9-4A-II Defensive Newcomer of the Year) will lead a linebacker corp which will also feature senior outside linebackers Lahmad Hunt (1st team all-district) and Sean Singleton, as well as seniors Lekendrick Garrett and Tajh Cross. Junior safety Jemario Thomas (2nd team all-district) will anchor a secondary that will feature cornerback Byron Grant and defensive back Josin Williams.

Wow, 17 starters.  This Dog will bite.  Just bad luck being in the same District as Carthage.

I almost consider it good luck. If all works out maybe you see them a 2nd time in the playoffs? With a lil more luck and experience, anything can happen. Seen it couple times recently.

Normally, it's pretty easy to go into a season and know what you're gonna get from Jasper. This year is a total crapshoot with that schedule and everything that's going on outside of football. The Bulldogs could play really competitive football against all of these good teams, but still go 6-4 and be a Darkhorse going into the playoffs.
