How many freshman or sophomores does your program play on varsity? Is it common or does it vary year to year? How did they do? Were they starting or were they sitting the bench? If you have any highlight videos post them! Also name the program you are posting about.

Aledo will mix in a couple sophomores on varsity each year it seems like. Freshman are rare although they have been known to play small roles from time to time. I think Aledo likes to pull some young kids up to the teach them the varsity way. That way they can be the leaders when they are seniors. Aledo does a good job of getting the younger kids playing time to gain experience for the next season. During the playoffs the special teams get remade to have the top kids from JV get some action.

Here are some highlights of Aledo sophomores starting on varsity.

Y’all have an amazing program.

We have been very fortunate. Lots of things going our way for us to be in a position to succeed.

We’re a smaller 4A school with limited participation and we have had couple of freshmen and more than a few sophomores called up for varsity duty with some decent levels of instant success. It typically comes later in the season when varsity needs arise or the young ones just really outdo themselves early in the season on the sub-varsity squads.

Honestly, though, it kinda seems like we’ve been kinda snake-bit lately because the two kids that I distinctly remember starting as freshmen and having success ended up with mediocre careers. Kinda makes me wonder if the early success kinda killed their drive to improve. Dunno.

Participation is huge for all the schools. I'd bet teams like Carthage or WOS have more participation than some bad 6A schools.

Carthage suits up prob 50 plus kids. WOS 30 to 35 kids. Not everyone will make it through Coach Thompson to be on a team. LCM started 1 freshman last year and a few sophomores. This up coming there will be a lot underclassman on varsity.

I was thinking about the entire program not just varsity. My bad for not clarifying.

We are 4A D2 and went 3 rounds deep in the playoffs, but arguably our best two players were sophomores.

Whats going to be a bummer for region 3 and all of D2 is the fact Carthage dropped. That is a big dog in a new yard.

Yeah it’s unfortunate lol Pleasant Grove was already gonna be loaded again anyways but Carthage basically puts the nail in the coffin lol
