Has Vidor ever produced a D1 player?

Montana could have took a D1 offer but he chose another path and that’s fine but I think he tore an ACL during his mission time away from the game. I could be wrong but I heard it was a sandy beach type of backyard football game and that was the end of that.

That is tough

I remember a D1 caliber rapper that came out of vidor. What was that big hit he had?

Throw your V’s up! Guy had D1 potential but ended up taking a D2 scholly after a random drug test said he was pregnant...

I heard Coach JB at Independence almost gave him another chance a couple of years ago but he couldn’t handle the small town Kansas lifestyle

That’s not true. He was run out of Orange County by his aspiring Orange County rapper Jacob Powers from LiCk’eM.

Along the same analogy -- have they ever had a D1 coach?

Ronnie Thompson but he only stayed one year ! QB/RB coach at both Texas & Texas A&M,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Thompson_(American_football)

They also had an OC that coached for the Arizona Wildcats and won 13 bowl games previous to coming to Vidor but he also left after a year.

Joey Peno - Late 70's - OL - LSU

Cal Peveto - 1979 - LB -  Texas A&M

BJ Stankovich - 1990 - LB - SMU

Jason Gooch - 2003 - TE - LA Tech

Rick Culbert - 2004 - ATH - Arkansas

Jerrod Gooch - 2007 - OL - Texas Tech

These are the ones that I know of.

Wikipedia is wrong again.  It says Thompson was 89-77-3 as a head coach.  Texas High School History says he was 95-90-3.  They are right.  I added up the wins.  Nothing spectacular.  Out of 18 years as a HC, Thompson only had "2" years that were notable.   And one of them "should" have resulted in a State Championship.  But...

True, but not what I meant.  I can see the confusion.  I was thinking quality of a D1-type, hence the analogy, in the HC's that they've had.

Well I am not much of a Country Music Fan but you may be right. Lol! As a side note George Jones was raised in Vidor also. I do like me some George Jones though! 😁

GJones was actually from Saratoga

Okay gotcha ! The way this thread is going I thought the analogy may be : Head coach is to player as songwriter is to singer.

If that was case then the "Five o'clock Somewhere" guy is D1 material.
