The Two Pirates?

Recommended Posts

Following SETX football, one could not help but to recognize the similarities between the two Pirate football teams here.  Vidor and Deweyville.  What do these two programs have in common?

Obviously, they share the Pirate mascot.

Both Pirates seem to always be the underdogs, no matter the opponent.

Both Pirates are considered small in their respective districts.

Pirates generally give up size, speed and talent to their opponents.

Pirates have no quit.

Pirates play with all heart.

Pirates have no fear.

Pirates are tough and resilient.

Pirates are bought-in to their programs and have a deep-seated loyalty to each other and their Coaches.

If Coach Matthews or Coach Prouse asked their young men to attack a nuclear submarine, all you'd hear was the splash of the warriors hitting the water.

Obviously we're not getting sized for our State Championship rings but if you appreciate a hard working, hard hitting, never give up, gut-it-out type of football team...y'all are always welcome, we'll save you a seat.  It's a great day to be a Pirate.

Both are historically horrible and very slow. In regards to DV, they will be run off the field soon enough in district. They may be able to make a run at "not being last in the district" due to HD being in the district.

Yep, I should've known...Thank you 89Falcon for your prediction of Deweyville's season. If you could maybe go back to the original post and have someone read it and explain to you, that'd be super.  Nevermind, I'll do it.The post drew a comparison to highlight the many similarities between these two schools who share the Pirate mascot and happen to be ~15 miles apart. I never once beat my chest and claimed world domination for either of these teams, I'm certain ESPN is interested in your 2A high school picks...I'm not. This was for the "historically horrible and slow" teams who "are about to be run off the field"every Friday night...it matters not, they will still show up, work their tails off and leave absolutely everything on that field for 48 full minutes...for their Coach, their teammates and their town. Not for themselves...that's the entire purpose of my post. Go Pirates! Black & Gold or Red & White...Its a Great day to be a Pirate.

You have to excuse 89Falcon. He is always quick to stomp on the downtrodden.

You are a true "Pirate Champion" and your nobility is to be commended. Unfortunately, once the district beatings commence there will be no evidence of the qualities and characteristics that you have identified. DV will once again resume its true form as a coaching graveyard/automatic win for opponents.

Why such a hatred or dislike for DV and Vidor?

I try to keep delusion out of the forum by providing critical reality checks. This is a particularly rampant issue in the low talent corners of SETX such as HD, DV, and the like as they are able to play each other back and forth (perhaps even get a guaranteed win against fodder such as Sabine Pass/ Burkeville) accumulating wins among each other.

The next manifestation of said delusion comes in the way of declarative posts how they will "fight", "work hard", "no quit", "hit the in the mouth", "four horsemen", "top RB tandem in the state", etc. In the end they are donkey punched back to the same old malaise with the coaches quitting or catching the first train out.

They are actually very fortunate to have me around.

World beaters or not, the best or the worse it does not hurt for the community to back their team. I tell my grandkids all the time win or lose, do the very best you can for that is all you can do. Unfortunately someone has to lose.

The Falcons are 5-0.  Impressive until you look at who’ve they’ve beat.  Three of the teams are 0-fers.   Fulshear 0-6.  HJ 0-5.  Huntington 0-6.  And then Concordia, 1-4.  Their only impressive win was Liberty, 3-2.  This week against Ltown will help determine if they are the real deal.  Should be a good game.

🤣 Makes sense now!!!

And just for those annoying stats...

Huffman sits at 19-17 record since 2016

Deweyville sits at 18-18 since 2016

Our area has experienced 3 devastating floods in 3 years, obviously our numbers are way down... To remain aligned with my original post, it has absolutely nothing to do with the scoreboard. The real victory is how these kids leave it all on the field every week, no matter the score...for each other, their coach and their town.  Congrats on your 5-0 start this year Falcon.

You will need to find something else to bother me. Have not been to Huffman in 30 years. If they go 0-10 or 10-0 it would mean little to me. I have had my own sports endeavors to keep me busy.

So your gonna down someone for supporting their hometown, and then defend yourself by saying you don’t care what your own hometown does? I see your sports endeavors keep you busy enough to still come on here and talk crap on DV of all people... 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️
