2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS

GROVETON INDIANS

2018 Record: 5-6 Overall, 2-3 District

4th Place in District 12-2A-I

One of the most storied programs in Texas found itself in a normal spot in 2018, back into the playoffs.  However, head coach Richard Steubing hopes to improve on Indians' 5-6 performance and give the Indian faithful the long playoff runs that they are accustomed to.  With ten starters on offense and nine starters on defense, he seems primed to do just that.

Head Coach: Richard Steubing

Assistant Coaches: Chris Sexton (Offensive Line/Quarterbacks), Wayne Williams (Defensive Coordinator/Secondary), Paul Parsons (Special Teams/Defensive Line), Ty Haney (Tight end/Fullbacks), Markell Province (Offensive Line)

Offense:

Ten starters return to the Groveton offense in 2019.  Senior quarterback Cade Steubing (1st team all-district) returns to lead the Indian offense.  Junior running back Trenton Torregrossa (1st team all-district) and junior Malachi Stewart will lead the rushing attack.  Senior receiver Davuarrio Horace, junior wide out Dylan Wells and junior tight end Zack Fisher will form the nucleus of the Groveton receiver corp.  They will operate behind an experienced offensive line which welcomes back senior guards Riley (2nd team all-district) and Ross Modeland, senior center Braxton Terry and senior tackle Ryan Turner.

Defense:

Nine starters return to the Groveton 4-3 defense in 2019.  Riley (at nose) and Ross (at tackle) will join junior defensive ends Martin Chavez (1st team all-district) and Luke Taylor along the defensive line.  Steubing will team with senior Ethan McCrory at the linebacker spot.  Torregrossa will anchor the Indian secondary along with senior cornerback Cole Dewitt and Wells.

Special Teams:

Torregrossa will do the kicking while Taylor will do the punting.  Stewart will be the primary Indian kick returner.
