Why Would OZEN want to stay in 5A

The reason is Beaumont Bowl rivalries in all sports! Like mentioned in past posts, BISD is better off with two high schools. Before Dr. Thomas came on board as Supt., things were more simpler! Now, it's more complicated! I don't understand why the district is falling apart.

Although I agree that things were simpler when there were 2 high schools, Dr. Thomas wasn't the one responsible for Ozen coming into existence.  It was the old heads from Hebert that pushed for it.  They've been waiting to get another school for years.

oh lawd, this will somehow get turned into something else by outside BISD bashers on this board.

Anyway, she seems to have a good point.

I really thought she did too. But i could care less what they do over there. I want LCM to win more then 3 games a year. smh lol

Will someone in the know explain/share with us who makes/made the decision for OZEN High School to opt out and stay in class 5A. Curiuos was it The Board of managers,The AD or the school itself ?

In my opinion only Ozen struggles with the numbers putting together a competitve group every year. The U.I.L. put together a system by numbers to give a level playing field to all. Travel cost

shouldnt that big of a difference if thats one of the reasons.Jmo.....

Soulja, what difference does it make how Beaumont is zoned? The kids go where they want anyway.

I think they're trying to stop that from happening.  Imo they need to remove the magnet programs from both Ozen and Central and do some major rezoning....  This problem didn't exist when it was 2 schools.  It. Was cut and dry.  South park, Pear Orchard, and west end went to West Brook.  Old Town, South end, and North End went to Central.

On another note..There is a petition out to change the name of the Stadium.

again? When did this one start?

Yes....  If my People (Beaumont People ) could use all of this energy to help better educate and prepare our children, then things would be light years better in my town....  Smh.  I never knew the name of a dang stadium made so many people lose sleep at night....

Beaumont needs to go back to 2 schools period. When I was at West Brook in late 80's and early 90's, West Brook and Central were in the playoffs every year. They put out very competitive teams. The old Hebert folks screwed up Beaumont when the ISD gave in and let them have their old Hebert back. Funny thing is, Ozen with the exception of a couple of good years in basketball and a couple in football hasn't done squat. If BISD folks are happy though then keep it 3 schools and get use to mediocre.

The first and only non-BISD gasbagger to actually make some sense.......  Thank you........

Now back on topic.  All BISD has to do is enforce a strict feeder system which would result a minimum of 200 kids back at Ozen and WB's ADM around 2200ish while Central would be around 1700.....

There are 2 elementary schools that are zoned to the West End which can be zoned to Odom and SP Middle.  Also, stop allowing the transfer of students who are passing the test.  Only those who are struggling would be allow to transfer.  This would go a long way to keeping Ozen above 1200.....

Amen to that! That way, it'll be more cost-effective!

Don't really matter what route they take ,but in comparison to Central and WB Ozen have been to state in basketball more  than Central and WB combined. Only 1 state championship in football by WB, B4 Ozen and Central existed.

People outside of the district, again, don't know squat.  Ozen's building was once WB 9th so it was still being used and was raggedy AF.  I subbed in portables there and what is now WR Smith Middle.  At the time, that building was Central 9th.  The 1st class of Central was 800 and change which was '87.  Class of '92 was 290ish.  Meanwhile, if you check your Dave Campbell mags from the 90's, WB ADM was 3000 plus.  Ping pongs were used to determine HS attendance.  And yes, they fought every Thursday.  The difference was there was no social media for the cowards outside the district to voice their uninformed opinions.  Also, Dixon was the coach at Central the bulk of the 90's and he was putrid at best...........

That's the school district thinking about themselves. Its not fair to kids, they should be in the classification of their numbers, so its an even playing field. That's why we have these numbers.

It won't affect the Ozen basketball program but as for football, they won't make the playoffs in 2016 or 2017.  Remember I said it even with Tyler returning.  It really isn't fair to the kids in my opinion.  They could have still played Central and West Brook in pre-district games.  I think the drop would have done great things for the student body at the school in the various extracurricular activities...

I went to BISD from K-12 homeboy. I may reading into your post too much, but it appears your directing it towards me (using words that I used in my previous post). I lived the goofy ping pong ball and was bused all over town. When did you attend BISD? I still say better off with 2 HS.

I don't think the Pear Orchard will agree with loosing their school again, just like the north and south end wouldn't want to loose Central. If you cut the school with the lowest academic performance then we would loose Central. I think the zoning issue is the problem with kids within 1 to 3 miles of Ozen being allowed to enter WB. The homes and apartments just behind, on the side and in front of Ozen are zoned for WB so tell me how is this equal zoning.

It depends. The Ozen AD could want to stay and the district agrees or the Ozen AD could say no but the district still checks the box. I know that is how it is with Dunbar. Everyone wants to drop but the district, so they stay up.

Well, homeskillet, I subbed in BISD in '91-'92 and I know the history of Beaumont quite well.  The only schools that won on a constant basis was Hebert and Charlton-Pollard.  Everybody else were mediocre

I was saying that this never happened when 2 high schools existed.  That means if Ozen never were created in '97, then we wouldn't be discussing dwindling numbers.  Central or West Brook's numbers NEVER dwindled when it was only 2.

Fast forwarding to now, I don't want it closed now.  So many proud alum there after 18 years of existence... And some proud Hebert alum living vicariously through Ozen.....

can't take away what Hebert didalon time ago, but WB did win state in early80's, had talent in 80's and early 90's with talent, but couldn't get past first round. You were a sub when I was there. Lol

From my understanding, the Pear Orchard was so concerned about getting their school back that they forgot to re zone the district. So jRidge that's why you have kids right down the street attending WB. So yes three school can be had in BMT but the zoning issues need to be addressed. I want to know whats the big deal about dropping to 4A. I've heard about the finances and all that's associated with the traveling and that's really dependent on which district they actually land in. WOS has been a winner at every level, the kids are what matter. WOS has given everyone in the area the blue print, i know the district has had its ups and downs but if it wasn't for a successful football program that district would fall apart. As an Ex Educator and coach a successful football year enhances the overall morale of the school: reduces absenteeism, referrals, and suspensions. Not saying WOS is perfect but all i'm saying if it wasn't for success in football there would be a number of kids that want even finish school. Sports is all the know and that's the motivation you need, not playing schools every week that has more  kids in their band than you have in your athletic program. 1A 2A 3A 4A 5A 6A, WOS send kids to college on a regular basis and from may last in service its all about putting kids in a good situation to succeed!!!! LIL C is going to be a beast no matter what division he plays in just like your boys JRIDGE because they work hard. Just had to vent, do whats best for the kids and yes my kids went to Ozen and played sports and they were happy but it may not have been what was best. Just following our feeder system like your suppose too. Odom to Ozen!!!

All that talent came from the Pear.  19 of the starting 22 in '82 played for Hebert the previous year.  Frank Middleton and them lived in Maida and should've gone to Central.  The team when Chip was a freshman lost to Katy in the Reg 3 finals in the Dome.......
