Over a year later and Cade is the projected #1 pick. That Monteverde team will have 3 guys go top 10 in this years draft. Potentially two top 5 picks.

Congrats to Coach Rideaux. I look forward to seeing him turn around another program like he did at HF. Wonder if his doubters are still around these days...

Agreed. Coach Mitchell deserves all of the credit in the world, but returning a D1 player of that size and skill will get you first or second in that district.

Great game from Coach Rideaux and the Longhorns. Best coach in the area. I can only imagine what he would do with Silsbee level talent.

Some on here will never acknowledge or give proper credit to him.  It’s okay.  With basketball guys, they only have to see his teams play a time or two to “get it.”  If you don’t get it, it’s kind of like the guy at the poker table who can’t figure out who the sucker is.  If you can’t find the sucker, it’s probably because it’s you...

My personal opinion, Yates 2010 team would be to small to compete against this current Montverde Academy, and this Yates Team played against some very good teams that particular year.  I can't name one team from the Houston or surrounding area that also includes SETX beating this Montverde Academy Powerhouse Team.

I completely agree. They best college basketball team would have zero chance against the worst NBA team. The NBA is filled the the most elite basketball talent across the world. In the SFA vs. Montverde topic. MVA has multiple guys that will play in the NBA one day and SFA has none. College big men would struggle against Tucker because he is one of the best 300 basketball players in the world, not just because of experience.

Before they saw Lebron as rookie in the league?  Yes they would be making this same argument.

You’re 100% accurate. Experience definitely makes a huge difference. Talent also matters. If we took MVA’s players when they are 20-22 and matched them against SFA they would win by 40 points or more. Experience is the only reason this is an argument to begin with.

Barnes is 18 too.  So their two best players are both younger than at least some of the better players in our area.

I am reading all of these exchanges with a great deal of interest.   If I am understanding you all correctly, then the Houston Rockets should be losing every game with the biggest player on the floor being about 6'6"  ( at that level, who the coach is doesnt matter too much because they are all very competent)

Let me add that not a team in the SLC has guards equivalent at the college level to a James Harden and Russell Westbrook.   What they would be playing vs MV is guards that ARE the equivalent - at that level of course.  Along with bigs that are blue chip program level elites.

Exactly. You have to actually look at the talent on the roster instead of assuming that they have certain limitation just because they are a HS team. I would bet that in a few years when Cade Cunningham is established in the league, the opinions on the conversation will change.

LCM travels to HF on Tuesday and the winner of that game is in the playoffs, I believe.
And let me say for the record that as good of a coach as Rideaux is, he may be a better teacher in my book. He's old school and has kids put phones away and actually use the physical copy of their book. No Google or social media. Just in your face, challenging, confrontational discussions about real world, controversial topics. And he's not afraid to hurt a student's feelings if it will help prepare them better.  I hope HF knows how good of a teacher they gained in addition to a good basketball coach. Not many of those kids will earn a living in basketball. He prepares kids for life. In a world where we need good liberals for good honest debate with us conservatives, Rideaux is a breath of fresh air.

I heard these rumors as well but I was not at the game so I can’t confirm. The only thing I do know is the effort Coach Rideaux puts in behind the scenes. His coaching technique can be blunt at times but he treats his players like children of his own. I can almost guarantee that if any of the HF players needed anything, Coach Rideaux would be the first person they would call. He has helped several kids get into college whether it was at Central, Lumberton, or with an AAU team in the summer. He takes care of his players on and off the court. I’ve seen first hand how his players at HF gravitate towards him off the court. He is a role model to his players and a great one at that. It is okay to question his coaching methods but if anyone questions his character, he or she does not know Coach Rideaux very well.

Ive attended 3 HF games and there is nothing ive seen from Tigee as being disrespectful or whatever some of you may believe he is. Just because he isnt your flavor doesn't take away from the fact he loves coaching and loves coaching kids. I see a young coach pouring his heart and soul into a program that was TERRIBLE!!!! The amount of time and energy he has spent trying change years of a losing mentality should be applauded not ridiculed . But thats the society we live in which is truly sad. Understand Lumberton was competitive but thats the mindset some of you like oh we played hard thats good enough , but dude wants to win period. So if ruffling some feathers in themprocess achieves the end goal then so be it. Ask any head coach they are only as good as their assistants so if your assistants are lazy you wont win, hence I guess he did make a difference and Lumberton made the playoffs. Also lets talk about these refs who are suppose to be unbiased but become emotionally involved when their judgement is questioned that says to me you never want to be wrong take your emotions out nobody pays to come see you ref. So say what you heard from your own ears not what someone else told you (ill be waiting).
This tread was started to be positive but some of you love spewing negativity.

Even if “it doesn’t get any better”, HF basketball is 11-3 and from what it seems like up close, all of his players love him. It really doesn’t seem like it has to get much better.

Maybe you should ask him..  Or.. volunteer to help.  I'm sure every coach in the state would love the advice of the plethora of sideline experts.  I know I would.  Sounds to me like with your advice of adjusting sooner then overtime could have been avoided altogether.  Know what.. I bet HF could go all the way.  You need to get down to that school, Shooter, and coach these kids up.  Run the "Picket Fence".  But don't you let em get caught watching the paint dry.
*Yes I made a reference to the drunk, volunteer coach in the movie 'Hoosiers' who ended up being irrelevant in the overall success of the season.
