  1. Whether you like it or not, McDonald is the best hire here. The players and community support him 100%. The man is about as loyal as it gets when it comes to this job. Lumberton born and raised and came back to coach the game that he loves. Bringing in an outsider is not always the best move, because honestly to most outsiders, Lumberton is a stepping stone job. Reyes benefited greatly from that stable of kids he had. With all the talent graduating, this job is gonna be tough. McDonald isn't some guy who is gonna treat this as a notch on the ladder, and leave. That place is his home.
  2. Seems I was correct in my assumption. Hoping this translates to Pick ‘Ems success next season 😬
  3. Given the parameters of the job, this is a prime setup for someone like a current coordinator or experienced position coach to add "head coach" to their resume.
  4. I can’t see Silsbee being District Champs with what HF has coming back vs what Silsbee is losing. I’m not sure of Jaspers returnees. WOS won’t be a threat. I can see HF running the district and Silsbee/Jasper vying for second place. I would expect Silsbee to have 6-8 wins depending on who is scheduled in non-district action with a playoff berth and a 2nd round exit. What do y’all think?
  5. Considering McGuire came from Westlake during Dodge's tenure, I would bet a buffalo nickel Todd Dodge was the first name on his list of references.
  6. Todd Dodge is gonna recommend another sno-cones caliber hire for big Ned like he did at BC. Be careful with his advice. He could get you an absolute gem or a lump of coal.
  7. SO..... Is there a estimated date on when they will announce a hire?
  8. There is speed in OF to stretch the field and create space, i'm just most worried about the OLine. IF they can get a solid ground game going, I can foresee a good dose of quick game/RPO style offense to help the OLine. I don't foresee a whole lot of 3 step drop back and let er' rip. I think some people have a misconception of the spread just being a "slinging it deep". OF could make some money on short/Intermediate routes. You would be surprised how many simple bubble/slant/hitch routes turn into TDs because of one missed tackle. Lumberton for example lives off the short/intermediate passing game and getting the ball into the hands of their studs in space. The more I think about it, the more excited I get to see what the orange and white can do in the spread.
  9. We are gonna have to consult our coach quality control specialist @Reagan for the proper answers to these questions. 😂
  10. Not to be a negative Nancy, but having some good groups come through in JH usually doesn't translate to HS success. Back when I was in JH school, we destroyed everyone, went undefeated and were "district champs". Senior year in HS we went 5-5 and our coach got canned at the end of the year. 🤷‍♂️
  11. Would be interesting to see this 8 team district. I’m curious if Livingston and Huffman will even be placed in this district.
  12. I’m happy for Coach Breaux and his family. Orangefield is in good hands. I know I’ve spoken against OF going to the spread, but if anyone could install it and get the offense off the ground (literally 😂) it would be him.
  13. A double digit season would be a season with 2-3 losses max and a deep playoff run. That is not feasible in most SETX schools, much less Orangefield.
  14. 2023 (5-6) Slot T (Smalley Goes to BC) 2022 (9-3) Slot T 2021 (7-4) Slot T 2020 (4-5) Slot T 2019 (9-2) Slot T 2018 (5-5-1) Slot T 2017 (4-5) Slot T 2016 (5-6) Slot T 2015 (6-6) Slot T 2014 (8-5) Slot T 2013 (6-5) Slot T 2012 (3-6) Slot T (Smalley becomes AD/HFC) 2011 (5-5) Slot T(Brian Huckabay resigns) 2010 (7-2) Slot T 2009 (4-6) Slot T (Brian Huckabay becomes AD/HFC) 2008 (0-7) Pro I (Blake Morrison goes to Coldspring) 2007 (3-7) Pro I 2006 (3-6) Pro I 2006 (3-6) Pro I 2005 (4-4-1) Pro I 2004 (0-10) Pro I (Blake Morrison) OF Historical Record by Offense and Coach
  15. Anyone who thinks Orangefield has the personnel to run the spread, and be successful is sadly mistaken. OF historically has been bad at running anything other than the Slot T. The Slot T helps when you don't have good lineman to protect a QB who is trying to read a defense to make a good throw. There are not many lineman bodies walking the halls of Orangefield so the Slot T is the way to go if you wanna continue to be successful in OF. You can't change my mind because OF saw instant success making the switch from the Pro I to the Slot T and they have been way more successful ever since then.
  16. HFC has to teach a class? This is a nightmare scenario for @Reagan. Some young pup bout to the lead the Cougs to the promise land baby. 🤣
  17. No list released so far. I wouldn’t count on one either. BC never released one.
  18. Any shocker for Orangefield folk is code for "not expected" which probably means "out of towner" 😂
  19. I would assume with the new semester starting tomorrow for Orangefield, things should move along pretty quickly here.
  20. He is of the younger generation, it pretty much means “serious” but in a macho kind of way. 😂
  21. I think if you swap staffs, Nederland may have a slightly better season, who knows? But they dang sure aren’t gonna win state in one year or even come close to it. Why? Because coaching is a small part of a way bigger picture. A picture full of moving parts.
  22. I disagree with this. You wanna pin it all on coaching but PN-G has been successful for a long time, not just under Joseph. Multiple state championships and great seasons to prove this. Always competitive and in every game just about. Again, the two schools do not compare when it comes to the culture. There have been some amazing coaches come through Nederland and they still have 0 state championships. It is not just the coaching that is the culprit. PN-G is on a whole different planet when it comes to support from the community. Teams don't identify themselves by their coaches. They define themselves based on their identity. Ask any state champion how they got there. I guarantee you, coaching is a small part of an identity this is NOT rooted in a coach. Great teams are lead by great young men that bought into a program with the support of their community. WO-S lost that community support based on a hire they didn't like. Now look at them. They are missing their identity because the community turned on the coach, school, and the players' performance on the field followed. Tell me I am wrong. The game is bigger than just a good coach.
  23. This game is more than just coaching. It is a culture. Yes good coaching is important, but it isn't everything. It takes a football culture to be good at high school football. It starts with a foundation and identity, typically built in a weight room. That translates to kids improving physically and buying in to that identity. It also takes a community to support the team and coaches to guide the team and facilitate that growth. PN-G has built an identity that is forged in their weightroom. There is an ENORMOUS level of support for the team from the community. They have an awesome coaching staff that guides them in the right direction. Nederland lacks that identity. If you ask me what makes a true difference in HS football. It is a combination of a lot of things. It takes sacrifice by all. Again, i'm not saying coaching is not important, but I would argue the other obvious things that are very different about PN-G and Nederland. Recently, the culture and identity is just not the same.
