Poster I guess forgot about 2022 Port Arthur Memorial as well. (3rd round lost was to Longview who won Region 2). And last year that 1st round game was against Forney who won Region 2 as well.

FBM made it to the 4th round in 22-23. If that’s “weak,” I don’t know what “strong” is.

InWell he was vetted by some football savvy guys. If they didn’t think he’s got what it takes he wouldn’t be there. Nothing in sports is certain but so far so good in my opinion.

True! The previous coach, with the same type athletes, for 12 years could NOT get to the big dance. New coach comes in and makes 2 State appearances and wins one. AGAIN -- with the same type athletes. At Nederland, the last coach took Ned to the toilet with the same type athletes Neumann had. It all starts with the coaching!

Well, they’ll have to actually travel, is what I mean, probably won’t get their Dallas area refs, and probably will have a smaller crowd than they get at At&T, facing a not-at-all smaller PNG crowd.

Rez Ipsa reacted to Kountzer in Silsbee 66 Faith Family 80/FINAL
Who was the genius that came up with the idea of creating an uneven playing field by allowing one team to recruit over a broad area of talent while restricting all the other teams to stringent recruiting rules. Then call it fair sportsman ‘ship?

Rez Ipsa got a reaction from KF89 in Scott Rich named as new Nederland HC/AD
I look at it as a toss up between Dayton and Nederland for the fourth spot. Dayton has a more proven coach, but I (perhaps naively) refuse to not think Nederland is a good coach away from putting things together. But, I’d still give an edge to Dayton. They were a more complete team than Nederland last year and are returning some key pieces. Nederland won an “anybody’s game” matchup with them. Add Prieto and the coin weighs more toward Dayton (and not just against Nederland).
And, just my two cents: I have trouble choosing between LC or PNG for first place. PNG was better last year, overall, but only slightly. LC brings back a stud QB and who knows who else. And, there’s hardly any margin for error. We could reasonably drop the first two of district and be fighting for third.

I’m sure an improvement from last year, looking more forward to the 2-3 years on a plan full offseason workout and culture change.
positive note I’m hearing all the kids are really buying into the program and perfect attendance to everyone showing up for the before and after school workouts.

Rez Ipsa reacted to Matthew328 in Dayton Hires Jerry Prieto as HC
A few things from Lake Worth
1) their top returning player who was the district MVP transferred out during the summer (was ruled ineligible and didnt play his senior year)
2) Prieto was hired the Friday before Memorial Day, tough to really implement things getting hired that late

Rez Ipsa got a reaction from jayhawk in PNG Schedule Released
With the addition of Prieto, this district has a new wrinkle. If we assume both Nederland and Dayton are improved with their HC additions, and if we assume they both show that improvement enough this season to at least challenge PNG/LC/Huntsville, the district race is fascinating. I don’t mean to overstate how good they could be - It’s more likely than not that a first year under a new coach is more “gradual progress” than “throwing a grenade on the whole schedule.” But, I also don’t want to overstate how good the favorites are. Last year was last year, this year is brand new. The season was already going to be interesting because you’re throwing PNG, LC, and Huntsville into the same test tube. If Dayton and Nederland improve even enough to make some noise, it becomes a murderer’s row. I personally hope that’s the case. I’d love our district to stomp into Region 2 and scatter everyone else’s marbles.

I think that was a talent issue/learning a new system. Look at the 5 seasons prior to them going back to back 10 win seasons.

There will be for the opener. Crosby fans will still show up 5 mins before kickoff looking for one of the same 27 parking spots we never found the last 20 years just so we can walk in and stand on the fence.

Rez Ipsa reacted to old guy 71 in 2024 Willie Ray Smith Finalists/WINNERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED
Miller, should have not been on the field at all against Bellville, as people realized by his slow return to the Basketball court ,but he wanted to start, and hope for a miracle. But injuries and team dynamics affect the decisions of these Individual awards, and in my opinion the Nguyen kid should win it , hands down.

Rez Ipsa reacted to CardinalBacker in 2024 Willie Ray Smith Finalists/WINNERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED
First, I don't think he was the best player on the field the week that Jasper came to Silsbee... Smith from Jasper should have worn a cape that night.
Secondly, the "on the field" part does mean something... Miller was MIA in the second half against Bellville. He wasn't too injured to start, just too injured to stay in the game once it started getting out of hand. I know that he's got a future to think about, and I understand his decision to chill on the sidelines while the rest of the Tigers were getting a demonstration on how the Slot T is supposed to work. Being the most athletically gifted kid on the team and being the best player on the field aren't the same thing.
But I wouldn't argue too much if Miller won.... he's still pretty deserving.
