Good post.  From where I sat (Jasper's side of course) Jasper was much more than a one trick pony.  Somebody was doing some good blocking to spring Hunt loose.  And as for speed and size, WOS was indeed very good.  Jasper was just faster, and bigger just judging that only a few times did WOS chase any Jasper player down once they cleared the secondary.  Even when Jasper recovered the ball on the 2 point attempt, no WOS player even came close to chasing down the Jasper player as he scooted to the end zone.  On the other hand Jasper in most cases seemed to usually chase down the WOS players.  And at the seven minute mark in the fourth quarter, Jasper didn't even try to use their speed, they just went on a smash mouth up the gut running drive of some 80 yards to kill off the clock.  I would not call that a one trick pony.
But that was only last night.  It is a foregone conclusion that WOS will get even better and I think that anyone that has to play them in district better bring their "A" game.  And honestly I hope that if both teams make the playoffs I hope they go in different brackets.  I hate to see Jasper have to play any team twice in the same season.  Still ticked off about 1986!   Just joking.  A little bit anyway.

Barbay has the utmost respect for Coach T and the WOS program. He didn’t kneel out of fear of retribution in the playoffs, he knelt because it was the right thing to do. Win with class, lose with class. This has always been the Barbay way. 

We've laid off the gas at some point in every game. I'm happy that we're in the position to do that. 

He was showing some class. He's done this with everybody that we've played this year, so it has nothing to do with possibly seeing you guys again. I believe the Mustangs will be a much better football team come playoff time, but guess what? Jasper will be better too and there's no reason for the Bulldogs to fear the Mustangs. Take care of your business and we'll see you down the road. Go Dawgs!

I don't blame you all for being frustrated. I always give credit where it's due and I've respected WOS since day 1 back in 1986. I expect the Mustangs to be back to normal very soon, but I also think that Coach Barbay may finally be putting something great together that we haven't seen in Jasper in a very long time. I hope we keep playing you guys. I think this rivalry is gonna ramp back up to the level it was when it started.

The Cougars are way down, but Jasper is dominant in a way that they haven't been in a very long time. It's good to see...

Clearly not the LaMarque of old; or Jasper is much better than I expected.  Or some combination of each.

Perhaps.  Have to see it to believe it.  Livingston has generally been tough for Jasper.  Regardless of record, I expect Livingston will be up for this game.

After playing both Silsbee and WO-S, I see no way Silsbee will beat WO-S.

Mijares kicks a 44 yard field goal. Pretty impressive. 46-6 Bulldogs late in the 4th.

Montavien Hunt scores on a 65 yard run. 4 TDs on 5 plays. Hunt has 184 yards on 3 carries. 28-0 Jasper late in the first quarter with no official first downs. 

Newton has never ran and hid from WOS. They went through a tough time, when Curtis passed, but they are up and running, now. 

Yaw better not overlook Jasper their going to be better than they were last year. Going to be young & lots faster.

On Tuesday my retirement from 33 years of coaching in east Harris county schools is official. I have been an avid fan of this site,  lurking online to not upset any future employer as I was heavy into trying to land my first head coaching gig. Never happened, bridesmaid 4-5 times. I got a great sales job opportunity from a fellow alumni Marlin Bulldog and started 2 weeks ago in jasper. Just wanted to say love your discussions, your passions, and so do other coaches. Some of your viewpoints are spot on, some ridiculous. Just because you haven't coached high school ball doesn't mean you're wrong. Unfortunately some high school  coaches act like bill O'Brien and talk down to everyone not in the club. That is just insecurities on their part and I hope the Texans overcome bad head coaching again, thank God Romeo Cornell is back. I will be an active member now along with other boards. I know of smoak for my central, deep east fix but is there a site for Houston area?

You are probably right.  Jasper has not had great success at  Disch Falk.  Hope this is the break through year.  Like it was at Dell in 2007.  Almost the same scenario.  Jasper had the worst record of the four teams.  Basically put a good Southeast Texas whupping on both teams they played.  Scored 25 runs and stole some 20 bases.  On paper Jasper does not have much of a chance against Argyle, but that I am confident they will show up for the game ready to play ball.  Might be another upset year.  Go Dogs!
