  1. Not necessarily but at the same time, yes. Haynes was really good in his time at Crosby but don't really see him at Dayton. Here, I really meant Prieto, but I don't discount Haynes applying for the job though.
  2. A lot of the time it's to establish continuity, especially if a coach uses the school for a springboard to a bigger/better job. If a coach was HC/AD and only stayed 2 years then left, the school would have to run the risk of hiring another coach that might do the same thing plus there's no one to be the boss over the different program HCs (basketball, baseball, etc.). Having an AD in place keeps the various programs running, especially with finances or if they need something done.
  3. I believe that. BH has VB talent oozing out their ears. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised at the outcomes of the superlative awards. Sometimes, ego and jealousy dominate when players should be rewarded for their hard work. I get that a player for a team can be deserving to be put up but if a another player is superior in all aspects of play, then the superior player should be voted in. Sometimes someone is better and should not be punished for being better.
  4. If you're talking about BH having 7 girls on the all district team, it's because one is a libero who can play for anyone on back row regardless of rotation or position.
  5. At the worst, dead ball and unnecessary delay on the team. If the violating team had no timeouts left, then point is awarded to the other team.
  6. Regarding WOS, the girls program there is not top tier. They regularly play lower classifications and lose in most team sports. It could be coaching or not enough actual skilled athletes to play. Skill has a lot to do with winning, not just athleticism. WOS always has athletes, but some may not play for different reasons. Like THS99 said, the club presence is not that strong in the Triangle. To get on a truly good club team, you would have to be closer to Houston or other metro areas like SA or Austin. That said, I don't get the love for MaxPreps. It's a tool that is available to coaches and as such, it is optional. So what if a coach doesn't use it. It's slightly useful as a record of games played if they are entered. Even then it's flawed. I've seen games where a team won 3-2 but didn't even record the scores of the final two games. Even the stat part can be flawed....if a coach puts stats on there, great, but are they reliable? Coaches pad stats all of the time. A possible reason that coaches may not use MaxPreps is that they don't want other coaches to "scout" their games/scores/stats. I would bet not many college recruiters/scouts actually look at MaxPreps. These days, if a college scouts for volleyball players, they go to the club tournaments. More likely to see way more players to recruit & more likely to see players that actually play well and know the game. They very rarely go to the high school games anymore, if at all. I can't even remember the last time I ever saw a college coach at a HS volleyball game. 8-10 years ago, maybe?
  7. Hardin played pretty well tonight and beat Huntsville 3-1.
  8. It wasn't me that said the "played anyone with a pulse" quote. It was Steven Avery who said that in responding to me. Speaking of Vidor, my step-dad's parents had a barber shop around the corner from the high school in the 60's-70s, maybe into the early 80's.
  9. No, I did not say BH was down. I said it was based on what teams I have actually seen with my own eyes. I have seen teams this season that are generally strong, like Huffman, be weaker than last year's team. I hear the BH program is quite good but never will get a chance to see them unless I do so after I retire. However, it helps that there are some clubs close to BH. Girls from Hardin/Liberty area have to travel to do club ball if they do it at all. Hardin usually plays the Wimberley Tex-Fest Tournament instead of the Central Heights tournament but rising costs of staying in the Wimberley area prompted a look around for a different tournament. Central Heights had some solid teams in the tournament (not high powered like you would see at Wimberley) and we got some game experience there. At Wimberley, Hardin played the likes of Laredo United, Stephenville, & Wimberley. Last year, they went 2 rounds deep in the Gold Bracket before losing to Wimberley in 3. Regarding your comment about Vidor, I do not know if they "played anyone with a pulse" but saw on here that they won the Silsbee Tournament and was told they were 7-0 coming into Hardin.
  10. Some of you folks aren't actually here to talk volleyball. Stirring the pot is what y'all like to do. Yes, we have lost games. Are we upset about it? Not at all. It's all game experience to get better as a team. I don't know if anyone noticed but Vidor came into Hardin having won the Silsbee tournament and was 7-0, but lost in 3 sets. Like I said before, tournament/non-district games don't really matter. Those games are to get ready for district play. In my opinion, volleyball is down all across the board. Even Huffman, who is coming off a state volleyball run last year, is down. They are still good, but not the same as last year. I have not seen many dominant teams this season, with the exception of maybe Tatum and Jewett Leon. Edit: I want to say that the last paragraph is based on what I have seen. I am sure there are some really great teams out there and I just haven't seen them. I'm sure Barbers Hill is one of them. I've never seen them play, obviously due to my job. I'm sure y'all think it's funny I post on here but I actually do love volleyball and like to see the legit info that is posted here.
  11. Doesn't matter. That's one game in a tournament, which happens to be a best 2 out of 3 sets. In district, it can go to 5 games. A win in a tournament does not guarantee a district championship win and those teams have to play each other twice. A few years ago , Orangefield dropped from 4A to 3A and thought they would just sweep everyone in district for an easy championship. Hardin beat them twice that year and Orangefield did a have a pretty good team as they only had 2 district losses. Granted, this year is different but your statement makes me think you've already counted Hardin out and you shouldn't.
  12. I think Hardin, Orangefield, and Anahuac will have something to say about that. Yes, Anahuac is up there too. Athletic as all get out and can play. Hardin beat Huffman in the first set Saturday, but dropped the last 2.
  13. Not true, there was a year where Hardin was down a bit and the parity in the district was a lot better. That year, if I remember correctly, there was a 3 way tie for first place (co-champs if you will) & Buna took a game from Hardin. I don’t recall who the third team was…Kountze maybe. A few years later, Buna took a game as well for the only district loss that season (Hardin still ended up district champs). I will say Buna always gets pumped to play Hardin. Good match. Nice hyperbole though. For the record, it was a tournament and best 2 of 3. Scores were close and could have gone either way.
  14. You talk/type just like Jim Adler. On here, anybody can say that they are a fan of a certain school and there’s not much evidence to disprove that. All a poster has to do is consistently “support” a school and say they’re a fan. That’s the online world for you. I’m sure there are multiple people here that have multiple accounts. For what purpose, I don’t know. By the way, Hardin does just fine without a MaxPreps account. The college worthy players that have come through the program have all found a spot somewhere. Not just in volleyball too. Hardin softball players have found college homes as well.
  15. That is from the other teams who have a MaxPreps account. When they record a win/loss, it is reflected in the other team's profile as well. Most years, the MaxPreps is very inconsistent in records. Hardin does not have a MaxPreps account that is officially kept up by Hardin staff. They are currently 4-5 at the moment, but improving every day. If someone were to go back over the past years, one would see that the majority of the losses for Hardin seasons occurred in the early part of the season. The question of the day: Are Kenny Powers and Jim Adler the same person?
  16. Not there, but I did hear Tatum beat Hardin. Tatum is usually pretty good and a program that has been on the rise for a couple of years. However, they did lose to Nederland last year which is historically no competition for Hardin. Further evidence this team (Hardin) is a far cry from what it has been for the last 24 years. Score was Tatum 25-14, 25-11 Was also told Hardin lost to Lorena today, but that was expected. When was the last time Hardin started the season 0-3 ? You guessed it........never in volleyball Just FYI…Hardin has never played Nederland.
  17. The point I was making is that there won’t be rumors or “I heard this” threads started here when she does retire. Stop with the exaggeration and the over the top stuff, like you saying Regina didn’t have to work for a living. That’s pretty far from the truth.
  18. I see that some of y’all like to stir the pot I work with Regina and she has shown up to summer workouts for the girls program. Also, someone on here is acting like they really know Regina and her family as they put details that seem to suggest that. Never mind that a detail or two are completely wrong. Trust me, when Regina does retire, everyone will know.
  19. I have heard Rusk may possibly be in the conversation, but beyond that, I don't know.
  20. Looking at that information, it's interesting to to see 2 former MLB players as assistant coaches. Mark Petkovsek and Andy Pettite (for Second Baptist). Both were pitchers in the Show.
  21. I never said he was a 140 lb QB. He might have been 140-150 (maybe pushing 160) in 8th grade but he's got the frame to be a good sized QB. Though even as a freshman, 187 lbs might be stretching it. Don't you know football game programs make their players bigger & heavier? Even the NCAA teams do it... He's definitely closer to 187 now that he would have been when he left Hardin.
  22. I saw him recently too and he's got to be at the very least 6'1"-6'2" and about 170lbs or more. He looked as heavy as I am and I'm 5'9, 180. If he keeps growing, I can see him being 6"3-4" and 190-200. He will be a sophomore for Nederland. I got to know Brady at Hardin and he is a good kid who is just athletic as all get out. He knows what he can do and maximizes his ability. He just soaks in football and it's thanks to his dad. Ned was a pretty good QB back in his day.
  23. Hardin vs Boling time has moved up to 6 pm.
