WOSgrad got a reaction from Pepper Brooks in H-F Under Investigation/CLEARED
You know the constant playing of the whiner...er, race card, doesn't not paint you as oppressed.....it paints you as a whiner. You think you would have learned that during your considerable free time in Nacogdoches, but I guess Steve Wariner had it right...some fools never learn.

WOSgrad reacted to gohornets23 in Eisenhower Football Player Charged with Capital Murder
Don't want to start anything, just dispel a common and very frustrating myth about poor minorities and sports. Athletics is most certainly not the only realistic way these kids don't end up a statistic. It is far easier, particularly for kids living in poverty, to get an academic scholarship than one in athletics, and even without a scholarship, college is still attainable to people at any level of income if it is something they really want. Not even mentioning the number of trade and career schools that exists as options for people who are truly motivated. There are a thousand ways to skin a cat.
I don't mean to seem like I am lecturing, but it gets very tiresome when I hear kids act like if they don't get a scholarship to play sports then they have no chance in this world. And the sad part is that they get this idea from uninformed parents and relatives who think it is true.
Fact is, if the parents of kids in bad situations cared 10% as much about their academics as they do about what they do on the court/field, then the kids would probably be alright. I see kids time and time again who's parents will show up to every sporting event but don't have time to make the meeting to decide the kids graduation plan or anything else to do with school.

I held off for the very same reason. I realize that this could (and probably ultimately will) be a hot button issue.

WOSgrad got a reaction from 5 on 5 in Central vs. Ozen
Hang on! Before things get too far underway, I need to get something and I think I might need the big gun on this one:

I bet the opening tip was pretty boring, though.

Nobody started for Ozen and Central won by only 6 points. Dang, Ozen is pretty good.

I, too, am surprised that this story has not been discussed here until now.

I'm surprised this just now made it on here. I've seen it all over facebook, including the comments from parents who's kids were involved. Another article stated that more than 1 kid had been diagnosed with Rhab and 1 had to be taken to Texas Children with kidney failure. Some reported that is was a "Crossfit" type work out and that the punishment was for leaving the locker room a mess before going on Christmas break.

Last year in the very same district, WO-S did not.

This will probably be taken the wrong way when I say it, so at the outset I will say the following: 1) I do support a season long DI-DII split in both 6A and 5A and in fact think it is even more necessary than in the classifications where such a split currently exists yet 2) I don't like systems that water down the race for the playoff and I firmly believe that the split should be accompanied by a reduction of teams from each district from 4 to 2. That being said, I have the following question for Cougar 14.2:
You offer the above criticism of the DI-D2 split in Class 4A, but isn't the split that caused the above situation the very split that you are advocating for Class 5A?

WOSgrad got a reaction from Octfeb in Old Coach Class 5A Realignment Projection
Robanadana is spot on with this. I seriously doubt that any school is "scared" to come into 22-5A. They will line up and take their chances. My question is a bit opposite of one asked earlier which is, why the eagerness to have either Dayton or the Hill join 22-5A? If the UIL manages to keep Nacogdoches to the North and Lee, Dayton and Barbers Hill to the west, the longest trip in 22-5A (or whatever the district is named after the realignment), the longest jaunt for a district game will be from Port Arthur to Lumberton. I think that would make A NUMBER of AD's, as well as fans, very happy!
