due to the transfer portal, and the covid year of extra eligibility.... 2022, 2023 and 2024 graduates are in a tough spots as schools dont need as many players due to current college kids exercising the extra covid year.
On top of that, unless they are an absolute gamer or have height, insane scoring ability (not scoring averages that come from fast break layups) the colleges can go shopping in the portal and get a proven player at that level.
I think as you see teams like lsu womens who relied heavily on the portal succeed, that will be the norm....
Also, it has changed the D1 game as a whole, where almost all players coming off the bench roll Into the portal and find a home elsewhere.... Thats why the blue blood programs have NO bench and the mid major teams who keep their benches intact a little better are starting to find more success..

HJ vs Palestine
Tuesday 2/21. 6:30
Huntsville High School
-
Palestine got tons of easy buckets just chunking it down the court and laying it up... especially early. SIlsbee took alot of mid range jumpshots and couldnt hit alot of them, which compounded the easy buckets at the other end. They also had alot of turnovers on long crosscourt passes that turned into layups.
Was a good night for Palestine and a bad night for silsbee... Their guard size seemed to give Silsbee problems as well.
Palestine has played ultiple stretches this year without their best 2 at different times. They should have won their district easily... in my opinion

@FALCONS2026 @Bullets13 This is actually inaccurate information. The true story will be out soon enough.
From watching it twice, I'd say it was pretty accurate.....

Any one have local district standings?
-
KPBall -would love to have a conversation with you one day..... Our girls played their heart out!
-
The unnamed team was Southwest Prep out of Ontario, Canada. Very solid team filled with several D1 players. All of them were about 6'0 with a 6'3' post. We played well, just ran out of gas and lost a close one....
The whole rankings thing is fun for observers.... Final rankings are the one that matters! That will settle in 2 weeks. Right now the Lady Hawks want to beat Navasota. Nothing more, nothing less.
-
HJ vs Splendora will be today. Sub varsity games were cancelled. Varsity Girls at 4:30, Boys at 6.
-
Lumberton still has Silsbee as well. The 3rd seed will get a tough 1st round matchup with Huffman.
-
Disagree about the district.... Huffman is 20-5 with 2 losses to HJ and one to Kingwood Park. They have really been playing well. Have a really good chance to end up in the Regional tournament as the 2 seed out of our district
I agree about the schedule, but the Lady Hawks practice against some of the best every day at practice....
The preseason was put together to take the district into account...
The #1 Team from Colorado, The #8 team from Georgia, Atascocita, Summer Creek, Duncanville, Austin, Wagner, Clemens, Memorial, Plano, Red Oak, Cedar Hill, St. Agnes, The 4a teams on the schedule are all either winning their districts or 2nd and were all 50+ games....
To be 27-4 with that schedule is a testament to the work the girls are putting in!
-
Well deserved for this young Lady. It has been a pleasure to watch her hard work over the years!
-
Lady Hawks improve to 24-4 , 8-0 with a 91-28 win. Lots of balanced scoring. a 35-0 run by the Lady Hawks midway thru the 1st and into the 2nd put this one away early.
-
Was also named to the Naismith Award - Midseason team yesterday as well. The Naismith award is for the National Player of the Year.

Great Tournament for the Lady Hawks.... Foul Trouble and a poor shooting game vs Plano was the one bad spot, but the Lady Hawks found a new fire in this tournament.
Kudos to Steve Martin! He runs a fantastic tournament in Duncanville!
