  8. I quit a job on a Wednesday as a rent to own manager (Rent-A-Center), put my applications in to other retail management jobs, in the MEANTIME, I went to work as a laborer for Mid-Gulf construction for a little more than half my previous wages. If you don’t know what a laborer is, it’s the entry level position and you get the jobs no one else wants to do…..and you use a shovel A LOT…..I hated that job so much I vowed never to ever own a shovel…I was young I tell that story because your first priority should be getting back to work, even if it a job you hate or feel it is beneath you. And to answer your irrelevant question, back then about 1 month. Now, much longer, but at the same time, probably 1 month,….I wouldn’t want to dip Into my savings…..so I would get a job, to this day, even one I didn’t like.
  9. Today
  10. I see a couple of Power 4 guys getting a second chance. Another two or three coordinators getting a few of these jobs.
  11. Plain and simple, Nederland's last season was not very good and this one is not very good.
  12. I know one thing: Arkansas better not go for a big name, it's a waste of time. I say get an up and coming coordinator from a program that knows what winning ballgames are about, especially one-score games.
  13. Where are all these new coaches coming from? Mid majors are about to get raided, but fan bases won’t be happy with that.
  14. Silsbee 41 Shepherd 16
  15. One game at a time. We got some 10-5AD1 business to handle next week in Port Arthur.

  17. Looking at the road to state ahead for Memorial......I only see Aledo & Smithson Valley. Not to downplay other teams, but these two are a definite for anyone headed to Arlington in 5A-D1.

  19. Actually about what I thought. Was a little fearful that we might get beat. The half time adjustments made by Montgomery were good and shows really good coaching. Talented team that I hope to see back in quarter finals, but that means they gotta beat the team that so not speak their name, lol
  20. Gotta go with the underdog. Broncos for the upset!
  21. They slipped from first in district to fourth, by a few plays. Thomas saved them in several games. I agree they have good players right now. He just needs to figure out how to get the best players on the field, at all positions.
  22. My gut tells me to go with BH on this one.
  23. Thanks for bringing the numbers up. In several cases the enrollment doesn't reflect the athletic participation. Even though Nederland is around 1400 kids, i would bet they have more kids in their high school program than Memorial. No one ever talks about the amazing job PA has been able to do. They are around 1700 students also, but over half of their enrollment in hispanic, with absolutely no interest in American football. For many, english is their second language. So while Memorial plays in 5A-D1, their program has the involvement of a Silsbee..........and they still handle business. Maybe Nederland doesn't have as many students enrolled, but they definitely compete in program size & participation....for now. I disagree Rich is a good coach. Maybe a good assistant. But as your first head coaching job, this one might not be the one. Maybe a smaller school, with less visibility and a weaker district. I think he's a good guy, just in over his head. He should have started at an Evadale, not the #1 high school rivalry in the nation.
