2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS

JASPER BULLDOGS

2018 Record: 12-1 Overall, 4-0 District

Class 4A, Division II, Region III Semifinalist

Although it didn't end the way that folks in Jasper wanted, the Jasper Bulldogs had an outstanding season, being just one touchdown away from their first state quarterfinal berth since their run to the state championship game in 2004.  The last season's run, plus the fact that Jasper Head Coach Darrell Barbay welcomes back nine starters on each side of the ball, leaves folks in Jasper thinking that it is time for another championship run.

Head Coach: Darrell Barbay

Assistant Coaches: Bryan Barbay (Offensive Coordinator), Trey Allen (Defensive Coordinator), Randall Reich (Backs/Quarterbacks), Randy Birdwell (Receivers), Travis Tates (Defensive Line), Stephen Westbrook (Inside Linebackers), Aaron Wueller (Outside Linebackers), Malcolm Bronson (Secondary)

Offense:

Nine starters return to the Jasper offense in 2019.  Junior quarterback Trashawn Adams will take control of the Bulldog offense.  The Bulldogs look again to be explosive as the 9-4A-II Offensive MVP, senior running Montavien Hunt, returns along with junior Carl Limberick.  Senior receivers Bryce Barbay (1st team all-district) and Reggie Shaw, as well as senior tight end Nolan Smith (1st team all-district) return to form a strong Bulldog receiver corp.  Senior offensive guard Edrick Adams (2nd team all-district), senior lineman Ja'kelon Johnson and junior offensive tackles Shunmarkus Adams and Myles Moye return to an offensive line which will also include senior lineman Joshua Rigsby.

Defense:

Nine starters return to the Jasper 3-4 defense in 2019.  Senior linemen Brashaun Hubbard (1st team all-district), Noah Spikes (2nd team all-district) and Jarvis Wilson (2nd team all-district) again return to man the Bulldog defensive line.  Seniors Trent Cooper (1st team all-district outside linebacker) and Avion Bennett (1st team all-district inside linebacker) return in 2019 where they will be joined by junior outside linebacker Shean Singleton and junior inside linebacker Lakendrick Garrett.  Senior safety Terrien Collins (1st team all-district) and senior cornerback Davon Scott (2nd team all-district) and Jay Wood return to patrol the Bulldog secondary along with newcomer Lahmad Hunt.

Special Teams:

Senior Alex Mijares (1st team all-district kicker and punter) will again handle the kicking and punting for Jasper.  Shaw and Hunt will head a dangerous Bulldog return game.

    • Just to expound a little further, so you are not confused...I, along with so many others, are laughing at your desperation. You are working overtime, nay, double even triple time, trying to convince normal people Trump was bad for the country. His policies provided for peace all over the world, low gas prices, low food prices, energy independence, closed border, low inflation, record low unemployment, and on and on and on. You try to counter this narrative by saying unemployment skyrocketed on his watch. You said this knowing full well the unemployment rate went up due to Covid. Your narrative is just so laughable, to the point of side-splitting hilarity. Who would even attempt this asinine narrative? Now, even if you get past the utter stupidity of that MSNBC talking point, you provide another side-splitting hilarious tidbit of evidence to back your claim of Trump being bad for the country. You actually tried to tie the stock market going down to Trump...after Covid. You, I, and everybody else knows the stock market was flourishing under Trump...until Covid hit. This argument is just as bad as the other one. Again, who would even attempt this narrative? The only thing you could remotely muster that had any sliver of truthfulness, is that spending increased. Sure, Trump rebuilt the military and gave them a deserved raise. But he also had to shut down the government due to Democrats demanding an even more, and very detrimental, increase in spending. And in a true extremely exaggerated fashion, you proclaim that spending "skyrocketed". Again, who would even attempt this narrative? I think I can smell the desperation. Do you have any other whoppers to contribute?
    • He was injured but has returned and he decided not to play baseball this year.
    • There's some truth to that.......some.
