East Chambers 100 Hardin 50/FINAL

Recommended Posts

I remember some really good teams around 2006-2008. I think the kids names were Marsh, Nolan and maybe Hunter?? Not sure , it's been awhile. There were 6 teams in the district that could play.I wouldn't be surprised to see Hardin win at home, like I said I haven't seen them this year.

I thought Hardin / EC and Anahuac have been in the same district since the beginning of time. Yes, I am exaggerating but they have been together at least the better part of 30 years.

Hardin and Anahuac fluctuated between 2A and 3A in the 90’s and early 2000’s.  EC stayed 2A.

That makes sense now that I go back and look at Hardin's district opponents over the years.  It still blows my mind that a town like Winnie can be "smaller" in school enrollment than a town like Hardin.  The math does not quite add up for me when you look at the two towns.

Hardin covers quite a bit of area, that’s the difference. Plus to the eye Winnie looks a lot bigger, due to the commercial businesses because of I-10, 73, and 124

Looks like Warren should have scheduled some tougher teams to beat Hardin. I have been to a few home games to watch my nephew play and I will say Hardin has a hustling group of boys that don’t quit. From what I’ve seen and heard everyone is battling injuries in the area Ec,orangefield big boy and one of Hardin’s better defensive players is hurt with a leg injury. And they still found a way to win. I think the coach is trying build confidence in his kids to make the 4th hole with his scheduling and I see nothing wrong with that. Congrats Hardin on the win tonight!

So playing Fred Good Samaritan several times builds confidence ? Warren has lost several games by 2 this year and several more where they were close at the half. I haven't seen them play but once and if I had to guess I'd say conditioning has a lot to do with their record in close games. I didn't even know there was a school in Fred.

I guess my point is, after browsing thru every single schedule of all our coverage area teams, not one school has a schedule like Hardin. Hardin has the only schedule where no team that they have played was at least a same classification school or higher than Hardin. That includes scheduling the three tournaments (2A Deweyville, 1A High Island, small school private Baytown Christian). Every single opponent till district play was a classification smaller, not even equal.

IMO, that sounds more like padding a record than trying to make your team better.

And from what I have been told by some in the know, that's exactly what's going on. Otherwise, why would someone ask what another coach's record was at Hardin? ;)

And to validate your point even further, Warren and Kirbyville's tougher schedule enabled them to defeat Hardin, right ? No, it actually went opposite of that so let's look back at all the non district schedules and make note of where it helped anyone prepare for their district because that is what matters.  This has everything to do with it bothering some that Hardin is 19-3 and not 3-19.

I am saying that Hardin is a better team to be having that kind of schedule. That schedule is an embarrassment. At least play 2-3 teams in your classification.

Like I said before, 95% of the coverage area teams would be 19-3 with that schedule.

Is the point to be just good enough to beat the Warren's, Kirbyville's and Anahuac's of your district? Because that's all that schedule prepares you for.

As for other teams non district schedule help preparing for district, you can point to many in that regard.

As stated, if you look at the original schedule, you'd see that Tarkington & Fannett are both there.  Both cancelled on Hardin in consecutive weeks.  Also, once again...this team lost to West Hardin, so let me ask you....who are they supposed to play to get better if they can't beat WEST FREAKIN HARDIN....

Not that I care.. but I doubt there is a schedule that could’ve been made nor a coach in the state that could beat EC, OF, or Buna with what Hardin has to work with.  so actually.. yeah..  Being just good enough to beat the Warrens, Anahuacs, and Kirbyvilles of the district doesn’t sound like a bad plan.

Hamshire-Fannett was a scrimmage. They canceled because they were in football playoffs.

Not saying they would beat those three, but at least challenge your team with a better schedule.

Is the mindset that fragile at Hardin?

Well.. for the sake of what I’m arguing (confidence>preparation) I’d have to say that all teenagers today have a seemingly fragile mind. That makes sense to why so many teams get to have a playoff shirt every year.  It makes sense to why there are so many kids who are on All District lists.  I’m afraid that the days of challenging kids in an attempt to make them want to be better..are behind us.  It seems to me that (according to my coaching friends around the state) it’s easier to either quit or not play at all rather than do something that might be physically or mentally painful.  Is the mindset that fragile at Hardin?  Probably so.

And there are other 5 are 1 freshman 2 sophomore’s 1 Junior and 1 senior that’s how the Second five go in. And from the games I’ve been to if it weren’t for the 2nd 5 the first 5 would been in trouble. They are just as good they hustle more than the first five but the first five are a little bit more basketball savvy. So for to say there is a big difference and that you are wrong. Hardin will be stronger for the years to come and basketball IMO. They have 4 seniors and 1 Jr on the starting 5. They sub out every two minutes Hardin will be just fine in the years to come and should make the playoffs this year.

I'll just throw this out there as my opinion. One year when I was at Bob Hope we opened up the season 7-0, playing a steady diet of 1A and private schools. We were in UIL 3A at the time. Our first district game was at home against East Chambers. If I remember correctly we lost that game approximately 120-40.

Our boys soccer team on the other hand barely finished above .500 for the regular season. However we played the absolute toughest competition we could find. That team lost in the regional quarters to Hargrave on penalties and was a hair from advancing to the tournament. That coach won Southeast Texas Coach of the Year.

I'll take a tougher schedule and a worse record any day of the week.

You guys had no business in 3a - no matter how you scheduled your pre-district games or not. nothing was going to prepare you for UIL 3a.
