The kids wouldn't suffer any more than they do now. The moms use the stamps for themselves and send the kids to school hungry for their only meals. The free lunch program feeds them.

FEMA replaced the food in my house from the storm that I bought and paid for with my own money. My tax money reimbursed me. I didn't sponge anything off of the government. The non workers do that.

I bet you haven't  have or have had kids under 25 on your insurance either.

The act also authorized the use of more vehicle barriers, checkpoints and lighting to curb illegal immigration, and the use of advanced technology such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles.

At the time the act was being considered, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer were all members of the Senate. (Schumer of New York is now the Senate minority leader.)

Obama, Clinton, Schumer and 23 other Democratic senators voted in favor of the act when it passed in the Senate by a vote of 80 to 19.

stevenash,

Democrats plan piecemeal appropriation bill starting with the treasury department and IRS. The action is so people can receive tax returns. Curious to see if all those that feel he should not cave will allow there tax return to be refunded months or years from  now. Will people encourage Republicans to pass the bill because now they will begin to feel the effect . I have stated in previous post that he does not need Congressional approval. Why is he calling those who are not receiving pay checks Democrats?

your brother is a Federal Worker who is " non essential "  however I strongly ddisagree. Do you believe he is a part of the swamp? Should his job be done away with because it can be done in the public or private sector?

His job should be done at the state level.  No need for the fed gov to have that much control and power.

And have no doubt, it is all about control and power, and so many buy into the nonsense that the fed gov is the answer to all our problems.

He’s an engineer and there are departments on the state levels that do the same thing he does.

So many of the federal departments should be abolished because it is already being handled at the state level.

The fed gov is ridiculously bloated and should be cut back to only the responsibilities laid out in the Constitution.

Won’t ever happen, but it should.

What you may not be aware of is that he may have a security clearance and his job is very important.  Chemical Engineer, Computer Engineer, and many others cannot be done in the state level. I agree that jobs like TSO can be done at the state level. Screeners worked at airports before Homeland Security was created.

“I don’t care that most of the workers not getting paid are Democrats, I want to stop the Shutdown as soon as we are in agreement on Strong Border Security!” the president tweeted. “I am in the White House ready to go, where are the Dems?” - I interpret that as meaning it doesnt matter who is the victim of the shutdown.  He did not intend for the shutdown to have a particular impact on a particular segment of society.  Apparently you interpreted it as he doesnt care about their pay if they are democrats.

Homeland Security was created after 9-11. President Bush administration created this department that I appreciate.  President Trump is creating the United States Space Force. Do you consider this wasteful government?

So you are saying that the reason he wanted the shutdown is because it would do harm to federal workers who mostly voted against him?

I don’t consider education wasteful spending, but the fed gov manages to do it in the Dept. of Education.  The fed gov is too large to effectively manage most programs, especially when it’s full of corrupt folks running them.

Imo, we do not need a space force, and NASA is a HUGE waste of money.

I don't know. Weapons are placed on satellites.  Recently other countries have been launching into space. China is planning to launch its own artificial moon by 2020 to replace street lamps and lower cost in urban areas, state media report. This all sound fishy to me.
