2018 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS

DAYTON BRONCOS

 2017 Record: 3-6 Overall, 3-5 District

6th Place in District 21-5A

The Dayton Broncos continued their adjustment to their new head coach, Jeff Nations, and that adjustment left them on the outside looking in.  But in 2018, a bunch of familiar faces will be standing on the Bronco sideline as Nations brings to the field one his more experienced team (14 starters return) since he has been here.  The new faces will be on the opposite side of the field as the Broncos enter the newly formed 12-5A-II in an effort to restore Dayton to a more familiar place...in the Class 5A playoffs!

Head Coach: Jeff Nations

Assistant Coaches: Brandon Craus, Jay'mond Cleveland, Andrew Moss, Daryl Bell, Quinn Wood, Jeff Stewart, Rob Davis, Ford Smesny, Sonny Garcia, Roger Sutterfield, B.J. Whitehead

Offense

8 starters return to the Dayton spread offense in 2018.  Returning to trigger the Bronco offense will be senior quarterback A.J. Nail (2nd team all-district, 98-153, 1038 yd, 12 TD in 2018).  Joining him in the backfield will be senior running back Justin Santee (1st team all-district, 104 carries, 808 yd, 6 YD).  Seniors Jermond Lovely and Jose Garcia return to lead a Bronco receiver group which will also include junior Cain Rogers and sophomore Chris Olige.  Senior tackles Allen Sowell (2nd team all-district) and Jacob Sutphin will be joined by senior guard Johnny Hoy, junior guard Dalton Patterson and senior center Dom McCollough along an experienced offensive line on which sophomore guard Tim Sjolander will also see time.

Defense

6 starters return to the Dayton 3-4 defense in 2018.  On the front line, senior lineman Jesse Santee will lead the way.  Senior outside linebacker R.J. Orebo will be joined by senior linebacker Colby Vauter (2nd team all-district) and junior linebacker Gavin Bennett.  Senior safety Zach Pike (1st team all-district) will anchor a secondary which will also feature junior cornerback Bryce Chimene and Olige.

Special Teams

Junior Jaime Pineda will handle the place kicking duties while senior Hedil Cuantianquiz will do the punting.  Lovely will be the primary kick returner.

It’s our last season for awhile, until Brady gets to be a Bronco,(2.5 yrs.old), so we pray to have a great injury free season and hope that Aj plays lights out all season long. As we found out last year, you gotta play every game like it could be your last, leave it all on the field Broncos. Love ya Aj, Love ya Broncos, and as always, GO 2018 BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
