Baytown Sterling is Open

For the record, Chad Taylor has not had one conversation with anyone from Goose Creek CISD or Baytown Sterling.  I have not applied for the position at Sterling, nor did it even cross my mind.  Coach Fortune did call me one day and ask if I was going to apply, but I told him that I am a Liberty Panther next year and after that, I would re-evaluate, as does every coach at the end of a season.  I did apply and interviewed for the position at Baytown Lee last year, but that is it.  You guys are correct, I do live close to Baytown Lee and it made a lot of sense at the time.  My wife and I both have taught in the GCCISD and it was good to us, however, we are Liberty Panthers!!  Not sure how my name got brought into this post or conversation but as me applying for and interviewing at Baytown Sterling, not true.  Call GCCISD, ask them if I applied!  You guys have a nice day!

Well heck. This is the type of coach you want leading your alma mater. Kind of disappointed, but understand completely.

No matter who has or has not applied, RSS needs some stability.  Hopefully they will find someone who is in it for the long haul.

Best of luck Coach Taylor. Liberty is lucky to have you and your family.

Great to hear coach. You’re doing big things in Liberty and it would be a shame to see you go. Glad that’s not the case! Thanks for your response.

How does the GCCISD AD keep his job? His hires across all sports have been completely unstable. It is well known come to GCCISD to get those pension salary years up for a few years and then go back to where you really want to be or take a joke admin job while keeping that elevated salary. AD is a blowhard who thinks everyone else is a idiot and that he is the smartest guy in the room.

I don’t know. One of the things the principal said they wanted was stability and then they hire someone who isn’t from Baytown. Has no ties to Baytown, and only lasted a year at his last job that went 1-9. Is that stability?? Three coaches in 4 years and it won’t shock me if this is open again soon.

last four years at RSS, missed playoffs in 17, 16 by one game each year

2017 B. Sawyer 4-6-0
2016 B. Sawyer 6-4-0
2015 P. Gareri, 4-6-0
2014 P. Gareri 5-5-0

Last four at Lee - 5A

2017 Finn 1-8-0
2016 D. Wilkinson 1-9-0
2015 D. Wilkinson 0-10-0
2014 D. Wilkinson 0-10-0

and GCM - 14,15 5A 16,17- 6A

2017 B. Jones 1-8-0
2016 B. Jones 0-10-0
2015 B. Boyd 4-6-0
2014 B. Boyd 4-6-0

Out of all the Baytown schools I would choose Sterling, at least they are competitive at the 6A level.

The records above show a cumulative 30-86 record over the past 5 years and there does not seem to be any playoff records.  Maxpreps shows a career win/loss record of 7/43 for the AD (Dr. Mulvaney).  They say the apple does not fall far from the tree.  With the hiring of Mr. Toomer and his abysmal record it seems that GCC has again settled for less than mediocrity.  It does not make sense why GCC would continue to hire personal relationships of the AD, when the AD has never been associated with a winning program and obviously cannot lead the programs into the winners side of the slate.

To make matters even worse, where in the state of Texas ..  or maybe the entire USA do 2 different coaches, in two different schools, under ONE athletic director VOLUNTARILY resign in consecutive years.  I know probably 100 coaches that would give anything to be a head coach, but because AD's like Mulvaney hire the wrong guys, these other people never get a chance, and then get slapped in the face when those who do get the chance just walk away.

    • Really good hire! As I stated previously on this thread, Mike T has been an essential part of WB’s success the last few years & is a student of the game & I have a ton of respect for how he goes about things as a coach. Big on teaching kids how to do things the right way to prepare them for not only basketball but the game of life. He’ll be fine there, my only question is what kind of talent does WB have returning?  Best thing about this situation for Mike T is WB will be 5A for at least the next 2 years, so he should win a lot of games & have some deep playoff runs.
    • So which coaches kid gets the QB job? Trotter or Barrier
    • A Winnie land owner (and others) sued the State of Texas after they built IH-10 a few feet higher in order to help contain storm flooding. Sure enough a hurricane hit and flooded the land. The storm improvements worked!! Unfortunately the state sacrificed several people’s properties in using the interstate highway as a dam.  Richard DeVillier tried to sue Texas under our laws and Constitution and the US Constitution under the Fifth Amendment “taking clause” (eminent domain). After a favorable ruling in the federal district court on the right to sue Texas directly, the Fifth Circuit Court in New Orleans overturned that ruling and said that the DeVlier had no authority to sue Texas directly.  On Tuesday a unanimous US Supreme Court ruled that DeVillier and others had the right to sue Texas directly under Texas law and under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. The case is now sent back down to the lower court. DeVillier and others have not won their lawsuits as the case has not been decided on its merits at a trial. He still has to go to prove his case. What they did win was a unanimous Supreme Court agreeing that he has the right to bring Texas to trial for taking his property with just compensation.
