TABC ALL STATE

The best player in the district was 3rd from EC as a freshman. That’s hands down. Alex is a very good player no doubt but Earnest moving from BISD to EC this summer was huge for EC. That kid is special.

EC easily had the best two players in the district.  I will compare it to Westbrook winning the MVP last season.  Based on his team being not very good and putting up ridiculous numbers, he was the MVP.  But in no planet is he the best player in the league...

How do you make the All State team...but didn’t make the All Region team??  I don’t think I’ve seen that before.  Unless I’m reading it wrong but I’m pretty sure Silsbee had 2 kids on the All Region team.

Adams did make all region. Was accidentally omitted.

I stated I had no problem with him being the district MVP. Just stated that he is not the best player in the district.

Being most valuable player doesn't always mean best player.

Alex is a great player... I love his game. But stats does not make someone better than someone else.

When the coaches are making the All-District selections.. they are supposed to be putting together a team from their district that they would use to play against another district (hypothetical).  Whichever kid that the coaches decide would be their unanimous top/first pick is the district MVP.  Or at least that's the way it's supposed to be.

To be honest All-District selections have gotten so PC and watered down that I don't even pay attention to who got what anymore.  It's pretty sickening.  There are far too many mommas to please to do it right.

Somebody asked for stats.... there they are. We not Allstate. MVP and All Region.... off an average team.  And he is a Jr. So y’all get one more year!!! Then comes his little brother. It will be alright!!! We need a post for this district so we can critique all the selections. Who can play and who can’t!!!

I do like the post about the team the coaches would create and who are the best players.

Whose the MVP ??? I forget???

This.

5 team districts having 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams AND THEN honorable mentions. It's a joke. Not as bad though I guess as allowing 4 teams to go to the playoffs...

There are literally teams where all 5 starters get an All-District "award" and maybe even bench players getting something.  I mean...seriously? Just look at how NBA and college do it.  That is the way it is supposed to be done.  And they should honestly do away with Co-ANYTHING.  Are we not man enough to just pick one and deal with a little disappointment?

Tell us what makes anyone in the district better than Alex on the basketball court as a complete player

I can't... #1 I am a coach and don't want to seem like I am talking down on a player. #2 I have coached Alex in summer ball and again, do not want to seem like I am downing him. Earnest is a DOG. He is fast, strong, aggressive, can shoot, has great handles, and is a killer on the ball. Literally takes the ball from kids 2-3 years older than him.

Stats don’t mean anythg. Let’s see his #s. You already insinuating he s better on this thread. I will not talk about 3rd. I see him all summer. Very good kid.

Stats are like bikinis.  They show a lot...but they don't show everything.

But no it's hard to say stats don't mean anything because that's not entirely true.  But it is not true that the person that scores the most points is the best player.  Sometimes that definitely true.  But not always.  On a good team, it is quite possible for their best player to only play around half of the game or so if they are killing a bad team.  But the best player on a different team may play the whole game against a bad team because it's a little more competitive.  In that case, stats don't mean everything.

Here’s my final post on the topic. Alex is no doubt a talented player, and single handily kept Buna competitive this season. He was no doubt the most valuable player, for his team. But if I were to draft a team from the kids in this district Third and Kordell would no doubt be my first picks. If Third is not a freshman, he would have been the MVP and not just the newcomer of the year. Either way these are high school kids, and they are both very talented player who deserve the honors they were given. I just feel Third was the best player of the district, and I feel anyone who watched him play will agree. I’m just excited to get to watch him for the next 3 years. He is a special player. And anyone who knows me knows how much of a fan I am of the Connell brothers. They both were/are great players, nothing but respect for them.

I also hate this by the way.  And it's kind of aggravating that most assume the Newcomer OTY should be a freshman.  If they do.. It's simply someone that wasn't a varsity player in the district the year before.  Could be a freshman..or former JV player...or even a move-in/transfer.  District picks..smh
