You are 100% percent correct.  They are trying to keep several people from the 2 programs and that's not how it works in the football coaching world.  Head Coaches are usually allowed to bring their own people if the choose.  It's a trust thing.  How can the new regime trust that old holdovers are not trying to sabotage them?  Several have turned it down for that reason.

So I’m guessing Botkin is out, and Whoever gets it has to keep coaches from the previous 2 schools?

Deadline is next Thursday if not sooner that they want to have made a hire.  Interviews are still scheduled for next week.  Shocked me when I heard a particular current head coach in the golden triangle has an interview next week.

So Matthews is on the list?

Wow is that what’s goin on? I’m currently out the state so I’ve been out of the loop,  .BISD as well as Ron Jackson should definitely be ashamed of Themselves if that’s true. They know as well as Jackson that’s not how it works, playing all that (favs crap, I’ma look out for you , buddy, ect) is played out smh exactly why BISD is in the position they’re in now, because of nonsense like this ,

That right there is funny!!

Well he beat Ozen coached by Taylor Sept.20 (42-14).....he also beat Central coached by Nelson Sept.26 (42-21) now that's funny. He's a formidable coach with intense motivation skills that gets his players to believe in themselves and to perform above their abilities....BISD has a bad history/pattern of passing/rejecting top applicants as demonstrated last week. Why not Matthews ? They discouraged Botkin a top shelf applicant with restraints on his staff. Shame on them if they pass on another solid applicant.

If its Matthews, IMO It would be good hire. I know some folks will disagree with me but he gets the most out of those kids without throwing the ball. The talent that BMT has I think he would probably excel if the community can buy into the program. He would need a good a DC. I'm sure the offense style would change. He does have losing overall record to Ozen and Central but looking at the scores they were competitive games at least  most of them.

Great guy from what I know of him.  He does get the most out of his kids and has been spanking both of our schools with that system.

I'm not a racist by any means and I don't think he is either but could you imagine all the talk on a guy and coach from Vidor being named the coach at United, a predominantly black and Hispanic school?

But I'll take him over Taylor ANY day...

I absolutely would NOT have a problem with Matthews.  As a matter of fact, a coach like him would probably be what the team needs.  A man of strong faith, hard nosed disciplinary.  Run first style.  With the athletes that he'll have at his disposal, that could work.  Problem would be with fans and parents that won't give him a chance and refuse to give his offensive scheme a fair shake.

And I think that whole white coach thing would go out the window if he immediately starts winning...

I see him running the ball just not in the wing t. Unless yall don't have a QB that cant throw. Yes he has been a run guy but I have not seen a vidor qb that could actually throw the ball down the field and spread you out.

I personally prefer a run first traditional offense vs. Spread.  I like the offense that Bridge City, Vidor, and Silsbee runs.

Between these 2 and whoever else, throwing the ball shouldn't be an issue IF a passing play is called.

If Stowers is still in it "which he should be" i can definetly see him landing the job now with all the restrictions BISD has on it, since most of the staff from both schools use to be his assistant coaches while at Central

Stowers was reportedly making $150K where ever he is and last I heard is no longer a candidate.  But I understand your point about the assistant coaches.  The hurdle for everyone except Stowers has been that the candidates are/were being told in the interview process that they couldn't bring any coaches with them and that Taylor and or Nelson had to be OC.

I was at the Ozen and vidor game this past year and that does not  look like the same Qb. I think the Qb number was 24?

From what I know,  Stowers last coaching job was in Little Elm.  He left that job to start selling health insurance.  Eventually, it was a pay increase...

I never really cared for the wing t. I guess because LCM was horrible in it. Had our first  winless season running it and crouch tried it 3-7 season. The spread at LCM was able to atleast move the ball for us. Now I do like split back veer with 3 wideouts. It would be interesting to watch if he could getting that offense to click there. I wonder how many 6a run the wing t

Wow that is sad, lol ..i understand it but thats not right,  with all that being said its a no brainer, Nelson was with Stump at WB an had Ozen one of the top offenses in the area

BINGO thats the plan..Placing RIDICULOUS restrictions on top applicants anticipating they will refuse the job. Opening the door for their old throw back and the FIX prevails again.

Vintage BISD smh...Maybe he'll decline too. He hasnt coached in 5 years but seems to have a fan base with the Jags, also with current and former AD...

I think the wing t would be favorable with these athletes. The passing game would be deadly. Those posts would be wide open. Defenses would be scared to death.

Yeah looking at it from that point it would be hard to defend. Euless Trinty runs the ball heavy and they have a good program. It might be the best fit

    • Really good hire! As I stated previously on this thread, Mike T has been an essential part of WB’s success the last few years & is a student of the game & I have a ton of respect for how he goes about things as a coach. Big on teaching kids how to do things the right way to prepare them for not only basketball but the game of life. He’ll be fine there, my only question is what kind of talent does WB have returning?  Best thing about this situation for Mike T is WB will be 5A for at least the next 2 years, so he should win a lot of games & have some deep playoff runs.
    • So which coaches kid gets the QB job? Trotter or Barrier
    • A Winnie land owner (and others) sued the State of Texas after they built IH-10 a few feet higher in order to help contain storm flooding. Sure enough a hurricane hit and flooded the land. The storm improvements worked!! Unfortunately the state sacrificed several people’s properties in using the interstate highway as a dam.  Richard DeVillier tried to sue Texas under our laws and Constitution and the US Constitution under the Fifth Amendment “taking clause” (eminent domain). After a favorable ruling in the federal district court on the right to sue Texas directly, the Fifth Circuit Court in New Orleans overturned that ruling and said that the DeVlier had no authority to sue Texas directly.  On Tuesday a unanimous US Supreme Court ruled that DeVillier and others had the right to sue Texas directly under Texas law and under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. The case is now sent back down to the lower court. DeVillier and others have not won their lawsuits as the case has not been decided on its merits at a trial. He still has to go to prove his case. What they did win was a unanimous Supreme Court agreeing that he has the right to bring Texas to trial for taking his property with just compensation.
