Favorite Movie Scenes

46 posts in this topic

I thought it would be fun to post your all time favorite cinematic moments.  For me, it’s impossible to choose between two, both ending scenes from two of my favorite films.  Both give me the goosebumps each and every time I watch.  Both are about three and a half minutes long.  And together they make up the best 7 minutes of film I’ve encountered.  They are offered below for your viewing pleasure:

When I first saw this movie (it’s one of those movies I watch everytime it’s on) I knew Hopkins would win the academy award. If he hadn't, the awards would have has to be rigged. I love how intense he gets into character....

Man he was phenomenal in that role.  What a great, classic scene.  Isn’t YouTube great where you can just pull these things up and watch?

And yet another war movie, but, like Hopkins above, you knew G.C.Scott was winning the AA.  A very powerful opening for Patton.

Several more come to mind, but I'll relinquish the stage for others.  Kudos Hoops - great idea for a thread.

Ok, I'm a big wuss, but I get tears in my eyes during this scene.  You know what though, I feel sorry for those that don't.

Saving Private Ryan was an exceptional movie, as most Spielberg movies are. People who kneel for the anthem won't get this scene. Sorry to be political, but this is what the flag stands for.

Side note: If you really want to check out whether acting is good or not, try viewing a movie with the sound off for a minute. Everything you see is acting. It's kinda funny sometimes, especially if you have seen it before.

No baddog, they won't get the scene, and they won't get the movie.  Players in the NFL think they're big and bad, but most of them wouldn't hold a candle to those guys who stormed Omaha beach.  They don't have the courage or guts for it, and sacrifice for love of country is not happening.  Sadly today, few would understand what it means.

I'd feel remiss if I didn't include a clip from Cool Hand Luke.  A movie with a bunch of great lines, including, Sometimes nothing is a real cool hand.

And a phrase my kids were all to familiar with growing up, Spend the night in the box.

I must apologize to Hoops, and the rest of y'all, because this isn't from a movie, but I laughed so hard the first time I heard it.  As the Four Tops said in a song, "I can't help myself".

My favorite english class in college, and I took several many times over, we would watch movies and write about them and Cool Hand Luke was one of them. Loved the movie.

From what I know of you, I think you would enjoy it.  One of my favorites.

The HJ job is tough for anyone to take.  It does not pay very well, LOW BUDGET, the district will not improve facilities(you can see that by not having baseball lights.. still the laughing stock of the state), Jr. high in cubicles(FEMA will not give them any money until they raise the old high school up like 2 ft.. which will not happen), the people in the district will not pass a bond(they feel the money from last bond was squandered, things that were supposed to be done were not), new AD will not be able to run a 4A athletic program correctly without interference from other head coaching sports (this will not change, look at Admin., any other school in the state of Texas if the head of other sports have any problems with the way the AD is running things... they would be gone.. that is not going to happen at HJ.  Until these things are fixed.. HJ will be nothing but a stepping stone and will get only coaches that will use it that way.

There are about 7 people in all of Sour Lake that care about football. For the rest of the community it is just an excuse to have cheerleaders, a marching band and a drill team.

You are correct...that is not a fantastic record. However, don't you think being successful is a little bit deeper than just winning and losing? He may be a good football coach...he may not be. I don't know but I'm not going to judge him on his win loss record at a school that traditionally does not win much in football.  I thought he was the coach when they broke that playoff drought years back. AHuddleston says that was under Franklin, but wasn't Joubert the coach when they returned to the playoffs the next year? If you want to win, you have to have athletes. Bill Belichick was 36-44 in five years with the Browns. 214-74 with the Patriots over 18 years. Is he that much better of a coach since he left Cleveland? I'm sure he's better because of experience, but it has just been a better situation with some great players along the way. Point is, Joubert has had a good season with some athletes. Maybe it was a fluke? Maybe it was the only time he has been able to field kids where they weren't completely outmatched? Maybe his win/loss record would be completely different in a different situation. Do you think he would have the same win/loss record over the past four years if he was the head coach at WOS? No, he would be in the playoffs making deep runs because the level of athletes (not saying he would have made it to the title game). Maybe he would do better there. Maybe not, but I don't think he would do much different than Martel and Sloan.

If you want to hire a puppet to coach football so you can stay decent at thump-thump, be my guest. I'm sure WO-S, Liberty, Silsbee and HF will really appreciate it.
