Deweyville 63 Burkeville 0/FINAL

My thoughts of the game.....I was very impressed with the size of the Pirates up front in the trenches, especially on defense. They played good disciplined assignments like a well coached team. The would stand up the Mustang O line to where the linebackers could hit the gaps where the runner was coming in. Buxton looks great at QB for only being a sophomore. Handed the ball off well and would get a minimum of 6+ yards on the read option while many times going 15 or more yards. Defense looked good for who they were playing. Didn't get to see any type of secondary action as Burkeville only ran the ball and the Pirates were just stacking the box and the corners playing in. Wish we could have seen more of a challenge to the secondary but it is what it is. I know I'm bouncing around here, but I'm just trying as I think. Lol. You could tell a HUGE difference in the discipline of the team in a whole. Amazing what happens when you get a real football coach! Another thing is the whole team is loaded with freshman and sophomores, hopefully Prouse stays around because these kids can be something special for Deweyville in the seasons to come....something the Town of Deweyville hasn't seen in years. The kicking game wasn't bad, the PAT's were mostly made except for two of the TD's I believe. Toe punch kicker, but he was effective. Kickoffs we're ok but could get them in a bind down the road, most of them went maybe to the 35-40 yard line. Good news is the Pirates have a ton of speed and cover the kicks very, very well and caused a few fumbles with that speed and hitting ability...they fly to the ball. One thing I'm a little disappointed in is the offense staying sort of vanilla. I wish Prouse would have let Buxton throw the ball a few times because the competition in their district is going to be tough and they need to use games like this to practice anything and everything. I know the boy can throw, he's a neck of a baseball player and they all have great speed on the outside and even the RB's. Of course if you are running the ball through them like warm butter all night, I guess you don't get fancy.  Also wish my stepson #6 could have played but I understand Coach Prouses decision to keep him out. He suffered a high ankle sprain a little after 2 a days and then re aggravated it yesterday at practice. He is an important part of the team and there was no reason to put him in during a blowout. Once again, a good coach does that! He is going to get an MRI in the morning so please say some prayers that it's not that bad. Anyways, great look from the young Pirates, can't wait to continue to watch them!

So proud to see the great turnout. What a wonderful event that Deweyville put on for our entire SETX community. There were fans in attendance from many different schools  BC, WOS, Orangefield and LCM to cheer on the Pirates. It's really a shame that not a single media outlet came out to cover such a wonderful event. There was tailgating, a DJ, 1600lbs of BBQ, drinks, even Tetanus shots...all made available for free to the public via a welcome all invitation. The weather was perfect for Friday Night Football and the young Pirates were hungry for a win. Great job guys!

Burkeville would struggle in 6 man this year, probably the last few years... Definitely not the Mustangs of the old...

If you have only 13 players taking the field, I imagine the struggle is real.

After this year, given the enrollment at Burkeville, 6 man is an option that they may seriously want to consider.

Happy to see Deweyville win, but it's sad Burkeville only has 13 players suited up.  Can't imagine why there aren't more.  Has to be some kind of local problem.  Regardless, my hats off to those 13, they stand tall.

Their enrollment is only about 87 (or it was in Oct. 2015).  Tough to get any kind of numbers with an enrollment like that.

    • Really good hire! As I stated previously on this thread, Mike T has been an essential part of WB’s success the last few years & is a student of the game & I have a ton of respect for how he goes about things as a coach. Big on teaching kids how to do things the right way to prepare them for not only basketball but the game of life. He’ll be fine there, my only question is what kind of talent does WB have returning?  Best thing about this situation for Mike T is WB will be 5A for at least the next 2 years, so he should win a lot of games & have some deep playoff runs.
    • So which coaches kid gets the QB job? Trotter or Barrier
    • A Winnie land owner (and others) sued the State of Texas after they built IH-10 a few feet higher in order to help contain storm flooding. Sure enough a hurricane hit and flooded the land. The storm improvements worked!! Unfortunately the state sacrificed several people’s properties in using the interstate highway as a dam.  Richard DeVillier tried to sue Texas under our laws and Constitution and the US Constitution under the Fifth Amendment “taking clause” (eminent domain). After a favorable ruling in the federal district court on the right to sue Texas directly, the Fifth Circuit Court in New Orleans overturned that ruling and said that the DeVlier had no authority to sue Texas directly.  On Tuesday a unanimous US Supreme Court ruled that DeVillier and others had the right to sue Texas directly under Texas law and under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. The case is now sent back down to the lower court. DeVillier and others have not won their lawsuits as the case has not been decided on its merits at a trial. He still has to go to prove his case. What they did win was a unanimous Supreme Court agreeing that he has the right to bring Texas to trial for taking his property with just compensation.
