WOS with Newton a close second, but with that being said there are a lot of Quality programs out there that are in playoffs year in and year out. I guess you would have to specify the actual qualifications as to what the criteria is for being the best program. As it sits now it is just opinions lol

It's a rather unfair question to begin with.   Yes, NO team closer than Harris or Galveston county can claim a winning record against WOS.  WOS has 384 wins since opening in 1977.  Nederland hit win 384 in 1997 after having played since 1925.  I think PNG hit win 384 in 1987.

But over the eras there were always dominant teams dating back to the start of the UIL in 1909.

TJ and Beaumont High were superpowers in the 1920's through the 1950's with TJ winning state titles in 1929 and 1944 when only ONE champion was proclaimed in the state.

Port Neches had several peaks with two state titles in the early 1950's and another spectacular four year run in the 1970's with a title in 1975.  After PNG's run in the early '50s Nederland came along and won a title in 1957.  In fact both Nederland and TJ hosted the state title games at home on the same day that year just miles apart with Nederland beating Sweetwater and TJ losing to Highland Park.

Bridge City won a title in the mid 1960s and then in the '80s we had TJ in the title game again in 1980, West Brook winning in 1982 and French co-champs with Permian in 1984.

in the lower classifications Hull-Daisetta actually held the NATIONAL winning streak record for almost 20 years not losing a game from 1935-1939 before they were surpassed by Abilene. H-D finally got a state title in 1979.

Newton has won 3 and don't forget about Burkeville.  Barbers Hill also won 2 when they were tiny back in the 1970s.

This is just mentioning programs with hardware but with the relative population we're talking about down here compared to DFW, San Antonio and any area within 200 miles of the Rio Grande we've done pretty well consistently for over a century as a community and I take pride in that.

I do  hope that you realize that  all but 2 of those games were before 1974 and Little Cyprus was not even consolidated with  Mauriceville then.  Think about relying  on the past. Now in the  1960's Little Cyprus had Newton's number but they haven't since becoming LC-M.

Very true,  As they have been winning pretty consistently since the early 1970's, it is hard to imagine a time when Newton wasn't winning, but they had that period of time.  In fact, Newton football didn't reach the .500 win percentage mark for its history until 1978.  The 1960s that jimmyw referenced were a period of particular struggle for the Eagles as they went 32-65-2 for a .326 winning percentage.

Even with that, Newton has had a school history that many would be jealous of.

That is very true. Last time we played was in1 985. Im just pointing out past history just like the Dallas Cowboys fans do about their super bowl champion ship. Just because it was in the past doesn't mean it should be forgotten.

I see that. I never looked at Newton record. Little Cypress was 82-54-3 through 1956-1969. We consolidate with Mauriceville in 1970 and we currently sit at 208-260-5 which is not to good.

    • Just to expound a little further, so you are not confused...I, along with so many others, are laughing at your desperation. You are working overtime, nay, double even triple time, trying to convince normal people Trump was bad for the country. His policies provided for peace all over the world, low gas prices, low food prices, energy independence, closed border, low inflation, record low unemployment, and on and on and on. You try to counter this narrative by saying unemployment skyrocketed on his watch. You said this knowing full well the unemployment rate went up due to Covid. Your narrative is just so laughable, to the point of side-splitting hilarity. Who would even attempt this asinine narrative? Now, even if you get past the utter stupidity of that MSNBC talking point, you provide another side-splitting hilarious tidbit of evidence to back your claim of Trump being bad for the country. You actually tried to tie the stock market going down to Trump...after Covid. You, I, and everybody else knows the stock market was flourishing under Trump...until Covid hit. This argument is just as bad as the other one. Again, who would even attempt this narrative? The only thing you could remotely muster that had any sliver of truthfulness, is that spending increased. Sure, Trump rebuilt the military and gave them a deserved raise. But he also had to shut down the government due to Democrats demanding an even more, and very detrimental, increase in spending. And in a true extremely exaggerated fashion, you proclaim that spending "skyrocketed". Again, who would even attempt this narrative? I think I can smell the desperation. Do you have any other whoppers to contribute?
    • He was injured but has returned and he decided not to play baseball this year.
    • There's some truth to that.......some.
