2017 Houston Astros

Recommended Posts

Altuve, Correa, and Springer named AL All Star game starters, Keuchel and McCullers named to the team as well although Keuchel will not pitch in the game. Hate to see Devo get left off the team as well as Marwin. Marwin I believe is at a disadvantage by not having a set position and being a utility guy although earlier this year he was the first position player in history to homer in 4 straight games while playing a different defensive position in each of the 4 games. If that isn't the definition of a utility stud then I don't know what is. With that being said, there will be snubs every year and I am excited the Astros will be well represented this year in Miami.

It's hard to pick one player on this talented team to be my favorite, but it would have to be Marwin Gonzales. If the game is tied with a runner in scoring position, I want him at the plate.

I remember Biggio never could beat out Ryne Sandberg as a starter at 2nd base. When Sandberg retired, Biggio was a shoe-in. Fan voting always leans towards popularity contests. Nice to see some Astros getting to start.

Everyone lost yesterday on the Astros' day off and we pick up 1/2 game on all. Closest team is 15 games back. Wow, gotta keep it going.

Let's not forget that the Dodgers are only one game worse than us. That would be good matchup and hopefully will be the WS. Still early, but this team is very special.

I love how this team is able to get on the board early in a bunch of games thus far. As good as it is for the mindset of the hitters, I know it's gotta make the pitcher strain mentally which is the worst thing that can happen against the kind of depth on this team.

Astros lost last night to the Blue Jays 7-4. They looked bad on defense but still kept it close. McCullers stunk up the place. Worst outing I have seen from him.

Tonight is much different. Springer is 4-5 with two homers, Altuve is 3-5, Correa has a homer, as does Gattis. 12 runs scored on 13 hits by the 7th inning.

Springer should get mvp.

19-1. Toronto must have pissed the Astros off. What a hitting team. Peacock pitched a shutout and is impressive being a converted reliever. Who wouldn't love to pitch for this team. All the run support almost guarantees a win. Get the pitching staff healthy and the Stros will be very difficult to stop.

Astros win 5-3 and take 2 out of 3 from the Twins. 2 out of 3 is what they are averaging. 62-30 is an awesome record.

I have a problem with saying they are 32 games above .500. They have played 92 games and .500 would be 46-46. Therefore, they are 16 games above .500.

On the other hand, they would have to lose 32 games in a row to be .500 from this point forward. Not sure which is the right way to look at it.

Dog days of summer fellas. Let them get healthy and put some fresh bats and arms on the roster come September so the core group can get a little rest before a playoff run. I hope they make a move before the deadline to help with our pitching. Offense is fine as is.

I believe that to an extent. I believe in chemistry and having hot streaks. Sometimes a rest can do more harm than good. I have seen the Braves lose a 20 game lead in a little over a month. Not saying that will happen, but I like keeping the foot on the gas. Maybe it's why I'm not a manager in MLB.

Anybody notice how bad we suck right now??

All Star deflation. All star game should be after the season. When voting starts after a month into the season, it is nothing more than a popularity contest.

Astros have lost their chemistry. When you get swept by the worst team in the AL, you need to do some soul searching.

    • 3 yrs ago LCM and Vidor played in Vidor for a play in game.  Game was on a Saturday and started around 1 or 2p.
    • It would shock me beyond belief if he tried to. Now, I hope and pray he appoints people that will investigate, charge, and imprison anyone found guilty of the crimes against him...including treason. I would be all for a special task force charged solely with the task of investigating crimes against Trump. Of course the Democrats will be screaming bloody murder that Trump is weaponizing the government against them. We all know the story. From a cursory standpoint, there seems to be a plethora of evidence to lock up many Democrats for a long time. Unless this is done, I see no end to destruction of our political system...and this country.
    • There is a difference, but I wouldn't at all put it past Trump to do so if he had the infrastructure in place to get away with it like the Dems currently do.  With the amount of effort he's invested in ruining those republicans who've opposed him, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
    • I think it will be an interesting case and could potentially come up for appeal on a different constitutional point.  The Supreme Court has ruled in the past that the government doesn’t have to take possession of property in order to take it under the meaning of the Fifth Amendment.  If they take away the enjoyment or use of the property, it is no different than physically seizing it to build a highway for example. In a lawsuit as opposed to a criminal trial, a person/plaintiff doesn’t have to prove something beyond a reasonable doubt but rather by a preponderance of evidence or “more likely” to have happened. Maybe it could be described as more likely yes than no or 51%-49%.  ”IF” it can be shown at a trial by a preponderance of evidence that Texas more likely yes than no caused the flooding with its engineering of the project, the people suing might have a case. But…. Does that alone win the case under the Fifth Amendment taking clause? I am not so sure. In US v Causby the Supreme Court ruled that the US government took a man’s property by flying airplanes over it. It was a public airport lawfully leased by the US in WWII and used to fly heavy bombers from it. Causby had an egg farm and the extremely loud noise of some airplanes under full power and sometimes at night with a landing lights being so close, it bothered and scared the family and damaged his egg farm production. Some chickens died and some quit laying eggs due to the extreme disturbances and lights at night. The Supreme Court ruled in Causby’s favor saying that the US had taken away the enjoyment and use of his land even though they didn’t physically seize it. The use of the land was hampered and that was enough for the taking clause under the Fifth Amendment. So in the IH-10 case, did Texas take away the use or enjoyment of the property?  A point of Causby was that the military bombers at a public airport was certainly for “public use”. The planes were public/taxpayers’ and the airport and lease were taxpayers’ property so the “public” definitely used it   My question in this lawsuit against Texas, even in they can prove the damage, was the damage (like in Causby) for “public use”? If not would it then not be a Fifth Amendment case but rather a state law case?  If Texas law denies such a lawsuit under state sovereignty and the families can’t prove a Fifth Amendment case of “public use”, could they prove the damages but still lose the case under state law? I haven’t read that anywhere and just thinking out loud. I could be way off base. But I think it could be interesting…..
    • Both sides...that is, everyone tries to get their people elected. Trump has not weaponized the government to bankrupt and imprison his political opponents. Night and day difference for me.
