Today is Appeals Day at UIL

Today is the day UIL will hear all appeals in regards to the realignment this past Feb. 1. We will know the status of Beaumont West Brook and Beaumont Harmony Science appeals later today.

Also big news regarding Livingston. It appears that Livingston turned in inaccurate numbers for realignment. Their accurate snap shot number actually will keep them in 5A. Will be interesting to see how UIL handles this.

If Livingston goes back to 5A (which they should) this will cause several teams to look for games to complete their 10 game schedule.

I know it is hard to predict what the UIL will do, but what do you think they will do with Beaumont Harmony Science?

If they move Livingston back to 5A, which district will they go?

to Beaumont and make a 9

to Huntsville, Willis, Brenham, Magnolia, Tomball, Waller and make a 9

new caney, kingwood, splendora, Dayton, mont belvieu, humble, Crosby which they are geographically closer.

Keep 20 and 22 at 8 ( even number ) and make 21 a 10 ( even number ).  This also affects fewer overall teams.

Harmony Science is not part of today's appeal. They've elected not to be part of a UIL district at this time. Here's a statement from their AD.

"Due to a miscommunication during the UIL re-alignment process, we were placed into a district that doesn't match our student athlete's needs. While we are saddened at the loss of conference play, we are grateful to the UIL and the other district 22-4A schools for allowing us to withdraw until the re-alignment process begins again."

So much for the UIL's "proximity" argument that they have used with GCCISD for years.

    • I don't know who the other coach was, but this guy has no head coaching experience, and minimal high school experience.  He spent last year at cleveland, who was terrible.  He may be great, and I don't care one way or another, but if Liberty passed up a coach with a history of success for a virtual unknown with virtually no previous success I'd be pretty frustrated if I was a panther fan.
    • How do you know that Harrison is not a big opportunity? I don't really know him, but maybe just maybe he is what Liberty needs. I was just wondering what you know about Harrison that doesn't make him a big opportunity.

    • Looking back at the exact wording, it seems like you are correct and it was the concrete barriers that were the ultimate problem. I mentioned it in my last comment, even if it was just the barriers, did Texas take his property? I think a case like US v. Causby might go a long way to proving his case. Causby had an egg farm and during World War II, the US government started flying four engine heavy bombers for the war effort, low over his farm at full power. The extremely loud noise killed a bunch of his chickens and caused many of the rest of them to quit laying eggs. Even though he legally still on the property, he sued, saying that the federal government had effectively “taken” the use of his property from him. The US Supreme Court sided with him, saying that for the purposes of the Fifth Amendment, the federal government had indeed taken away the use of his property. It wasn’t intentional but that didn’t matter. It seems like this case would fall somewhere along those lines.
