Kayak

I'm in the market for a kayak.  Never owned one before.

What recommendation do y'all have?

I will use it primarily for fishing.  I would use it in the surf when smooth, in the bay, rivers, lake, wherever...

I think I've decided on a sit-on-top style but would like some input.

WYG?!

I have very little knowledge about kayaks but I see a kayak club meeting sometimes when I go to Daley's in Nederland. I think it is the Salt Water Boys kayak club and they have a weekly or monthly meeting there.

I think they could provide a lot of face to face information to someone looking to get into it for a hobby. I see that they have a link to their homepage on Daley's website. You could also read their forums at

www.saltwaterboysfishing.com

You can also go to Daley's site at daleyshf.com under events and find a link to the club's tournament schedule. I know that you are not likely concerned about tournament fishIng but am guessing that those guys are a wealth of information.

Speaking of Kayaks, i wish they'd get out of the way out at Keith Lake.  It sure seems like they feel that because their boat is smaller and they don't have a motor that they don't have to follow the proper fishing etiquette when it comes to giving people space and not boating through their fishing area.  I'm also curious why there's a new boat ramp at keith lake, but it's gated off, but several kayakers appear to have a key to open the gate so that they can launch there.

Here's another site I check regularly.

I haven't owned one but have considered it for some time. From what I gather the kayak investment for fishing is the easy part. All the accessories that it takes to fish right and be safe adds up. That's why I would consider a used one that's already rigged. 12' to 14' is preferred by those that go BTB, fish the surf. I also hear Pelicans flip too easy.

    • Here’s the thing. I keep dropping facts on you, and you keep on knee-jerk saying “all lies!” I’ve asked you multiple times to point out whatever I’ve said that is factually wrong…but you can’t.  You might not like the facts, and they might make your eyes sweat a little… but it doesn’t change the fact that they are as true. Heck, deep down inside you might even know that Ol’ CB is right, but you believe Trump isn’t to blame. That, sir, does not turn the truth into a lie. What you should have said was is “that may be true, but I’m giving Trump a pass because…” Not “that’s a lie” when the numbers don’t lie.    But for you and everyone that  believes Trump was good for the economy, I’ll give another of my beloved and informative analogies that might help you finally understand.    A man handles his Family’s finances.  He makes a decision that life could be better, so he’s like “this is our year!” He stops all contributions to retirement accounts (cuts taxes) then proceeds to book a trip to Disney, buys nice things for the family and maxes out all possible lines of credit…. Now they’re facing bankruptcy.  The kids (y’all) are now arguing “things were so much better when  Dad (Trump, also your Daddy) was in charge! We had nice things!” The man set us on a course for ruin with deficit spending, then it accelerated with COVID, then he was such a pig that Biden got elected, and now we’re facing another “anybody but Trump” loss in the November, guaranteeing four more years of nonsense from which we’ll probably never recover. The debt is just insurmountable. We shouldn’t be surprised, either.  Trump has always been a “borrow as much as we can and pray (errrr, hope….not pray. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t do a lot of that) that it all works out” as evidenced by his businesses which have repeatedly bankrupted.
    • Something we probably already knew.  Remember -- soros is Jewish!!  It's been reported that he sided with the nazis during the Holocaust!   Again -- the devil has this snake of a person!
    • Professor Shugerman had a piece yesterday (In The New York Times) explaining the ways in which the Alvin Bragg case against Trump is quite thin gruel and a very bad idea, calling it an embarrassment and a mistake. Kudos to him.
