FbM was the 2nd best team in state. They knocked off Huntsville, which beat us on a missed 2 point conversation attempt( PI no call). We were going back and forth with Huntsville for 4th and 5th in the state rankings that year. I actually cheered for Crosby to knock off Aledo last year. One title appearance has gone to yalls head.

I didn't say we aren't good. I was emplying that we aren't as talented this year as we are known for. And replying about the no talent in 15-20 years comment. 2018 was loaded. We have sophomore starting Wrs for both TCU and USC. A starting OG for LSU.

Last seasons Marshall squad was the least talented group we've had since 2012. Broke our nearly 30 game district winning streak and ended up 5th and missing playoffs for first time in forever.. We have a young head coach that's just now in his 3rd season of being a HC/AD. He's doing some good things and brought back our old OL coach this year. As bad as they've played this year at times, it's much improved. We are usually known for having several D1 recruits each year. 2018s squad was top 5 in state and had D1s all over the field on offense. After last seasons nightmare, we were picked by many to miss playoffs again. So we have already exceeded expectations. This team isn't near as talented as our 2018 squad but they have more fight in them. We are a Jr heavy team, so I think we've set ourselves up nicely to return to form soon. Area round of playoffs wasn't really expected by most, so anything else we accomplish is just a cherry on top. As long as we see the same fight for 4 quarters, most will be satisfied. If your JV is 25 points better than our starters, why not start them and rest your starters for the Super Bowl in February?

The East Texas district will be much improved. Combine that with the graduation losses to A&M, Huntsville, Fb Marshall and Manvel leaving. Texas High dropped and got put in 9-5a. So I think Thigh, Marshall and a really great sr class led Pine Tree team will make more noise. Marshall lost alot but year 2 with new HC and staff will show marked improvement over last year. Texas High knocked Lufkin out in D1 playoffs last season and return several starters.

This will be coach Southerns first trip back to his former teams stadium, except this time he will be on the visiting sideline. Rematch of last years 3rd round game that ended 35-34 on a controversial missed 2 point conversion. This year Marshall will have true home field advantage. Huntsville is not your typical 4 seed so this game should be another barn burner. Both teams started the year in the top 5. Predictions? Winner will get the Crosby VS Ft Bend Willowridge winner.

How does Crosby match up VS Ft Bend Willowridge? Most likely first round matchup if they take care of business VS Lee.

Both of the Marshalls Qbs are ranked in top 12 nationally among 2020 dual threats. Hornsby and Green.

Marshall has about 9 starters back on D and 7/8 on offense. Including D1 qb JJ Green and 6'5 D1 wr Savion Williams. Lose 2 other D1 wrs to graduation. They will be part of a Netflix HS football documentary starting with spring practice and going through the entire season. Claude Mathis went back to Desoto this off season so we promoted the OC to Ad/HC. Jake Greidl was a part of the Lake Travis coaching staff that won state. Have a new DC that was previously the DC at 6a Waco Midway. Should be a fun season, and that Carthage game should be another barnburner. Hurts playing them right after 6a Longview Lobos. Last year we played Carthage after being smacked by lview and had ZERO team confidence.

How will the areas 5a d2s be next season, coming from a Marshall alum/fan.? Nederland, PNG, A&M Consolidated, Huntsville, Manvel Crosby?

Marshalls 2 losses are a little better than .500. Longview and Carthage are both 11-0 and could end up winning 6a n 4a state titles. Since those 2 games Marshall has greatly improved defensively and found a running game offensively. ETSN preview [Hidden Content]
