2. Yes it could be thrown, repunted, ran. They key is - you have no kick until it passes the LOS. Callaway7 is very smart!
 3. A lot of people don't know the rule about being in the catchers box. The catcher has to be in the box "at the time of the pitch". When is the time of the pitch? Most people think it's when it leaves his hand. Most people are wrong. Time of the pitch is when a pitcher makes a move that commits him to deliver the pitch. So from the wind up, that first lttle rocking he does before he steps with his non pivot foot is "time of the pitch". It comes in to play when we award bases too. A runner may be standing on the next base when a pitcher lets go but if he wasnt there before "time of the pitch" his reward comes from the previous base.   BAM..that's the sound of ol teeboan dropping some knowledge on ya...lol
Either they weren't nominated by their coaches or if they were, they weren't available to play
 5. [Hidden Content] They are posted on our website
 6. Take it from an ol ump. Teach a kid to live at the knees, work out then in..You'll be amazed...no curve ball needed. Not until he has a driver's license anyway.
 7. No you are not reading it correctly. The umpire that made the call, made the correct call. Yes every game is important to us also. That's why we do it. It certainly isn't for the gas money we get paid or  the adoration we get from the stands. I'm done wih it, moving on!
 8. I'm with you Mofo..and the man that made the call didn't have 2 days to research and stare at a bad picture. He had about 3 seconds.
 9. I was talking to the umpire that made this call at our meeting last night. He said the throw from home was wide right and brought the SS to the 1st base side of 2nd. The contact happened 8 to 10 feet before 2nd base. You can't expect a kid to slide that far away because of a bad throw. Like we say D, "somtimes train wrecks happen". It was no different than a throw from SS pulling 1b off the bag towards home and him having a collision with the batter/runner coming up the line.
When the ref right on top of the play signals INT, and the ref 50 yards away runs across the field  and signals incomplete pass, even the fans that the call favors have to wonder......then they say they will take it.
Well first off your judgement is horrible if you think I was 50 yards away. I was in the middle of the field and the pass was near the LOS near the numbers. Hardly 50 yards. Second the LJ covering the call (an excellent official) was screened out because the DB had his back to him.He couldn't possibly tell if he ball hit the ground. I saw the ball bounce when the player went down so I helped him. They call plays like that catches in every NFL game played. They have a camera to help we don't. We got that call right so what's your beef?

It's a far cry from not knowing, mistake, etc.  I will admit that video stops and I don't know if he offered to help him up after it stopped. Still doesn't make what first did right.
You are exactly right. The coach steps into the runner. As an official I have been invovled in contact many times and NEVER stepped into it with my elbows out. It is instinct to step AWAY from the contact with your palms out, not your elbows.
lol, yeah, they don't see everything. and sometimes they see imaginary things. but, i was leaning more towards physical condition. like being able to keep up with the play.
Noticed on the Ned - Vidor replay that several of the refs were really hobbling around. Didnt look to be in very good physical shape......with that being said, its a thankless job and Im gratefull to have them. I wouldnt wanna do it.
Hey, I resemble that remark! LOL. I can tell you of the 5 in Vidor because I was one (umpire). I have packed on a few lbs this summer due to personal things I'd rather not go into but I still run 2 miles a day when I don't have games or training meetings, not fast mind you but I'm out there. The guy in the white hat is running bone on bone in his knee. He is gutting it out for us and having it replaced as soon as the season is over. The other 3 which are the ones with goal line to goal line responsibilty can run like deer. I assure you it's a non factor. Now eye sight........LOL.. and no I won't discuss anything to do with the game...just sayin
 14.
I have been involved in youth sports (baseball/football) for 10+ years and never witnessed a coach demoralize a group of 5-6 years as I did this weekend in a Flag Football game. I am not going to identify the team because this is not what this post is about but I witnessed it at the PNG fields this past weekend. Youth sports especially at 5-6 years of age is a time to help kids learn the game and make it fun for them. From the start of the game to the end (even when they were winning) the coach continued to yell and correct his players with no praise what so ever. With STJFL affiliated with USA Football and having to take the courses to be a coach, he sure did not represent STJFL OR USA football in a proper manner. If my son was on the team, I promise there would some words exchanged. Youth sports have really taking a down hill slide the past several years, it seems it more about the winning and the parents. We as coaches and parents really need step back and let these kids have fun and teach them the fundamentals of the game. I promise you the wins will come in due time.
Good post ManCub. I see it waaay to often also.
